Best Beaches in the Canary Islands

The Canary Islands have been a must-visit spot for holidaymakers for many years now, and with glorious year-round weather it’s a great destination whenever you choose to visit.

The Canary Islands boast many things that draw in tourists year after year from their beautiful scenery, volcanic landscapes, and not forgetting their fair share of beautiful beaches.  

A good beach can be the deciding factor when picking your holiday destination. With that being said, we have whittled down what we think are some of the best beaches in the Canary Islands.

Lanzarote

Lanzarote

Located in Los Ajaches National Park, and not too far from the resort of Playa Blanca, you’ll find a selection of stunning, natural beaches and coves which offer glass-like waters that are great for a spot of snorkelling. You can spend hours relaxing in the sunshine and dipping your toes in the water – you could even bring a picnic and make a day of it! But please be mindful, clothing is optional on some of these beaches – we don’t want you to choke on your sandwiches!

Lanzarote

Another beautiful beach in Lanzarote is Playa de Famara, which is located on the north-west coast. Despite being a surfer’s paradise, it never seems overcrowded, which is always a positive if you’re looking for a peaceful day by the sea. Numerous surfing championships take place throughout the year, so if you’re a keen surfer, windsurfer, or enjoy a spot of kiteboarding this could be the place for you! You can just enjoy spectating though if that’s more your style.

Fuerteventura

El Cotillo beach, Fuerteventura

On the west coast of Fuerteventura you’ll find a quaint little fishing village, El Cotillo, which is home to some beautiful beaches. These lagoon beaches are excellent for spotting marine life and great for children thanks to the safe clear waters. Make fond memories with your family paddling in the shallow waters and hunting for colourful fish. Set back from the golden sands 

Jandia, Fuerteventura

You can find Jandia on the south coast of Fuerteventura and here you can enjoy some of the best beaches on the island. It boasts 32km of coastline with dunes, lagoons and plenty of places to soak up the rays! While there are plenty of places to engage in watersports, you can also find quieter spots to relax if you want to. If you do choose to explore one of Jandia’s beautiful sandy spots, be aware some beaches are popular areas for nudists, so you may even spot a moon or two!

Gran Canaria

Maspalomas, Gran Canaria

With a magnificent backdrop of sand dunes, Maspalomas beach stretches as far as the resort Playa del Ingles. This makes it a great place for a stroll along the beach where you’ll be able to take in the island’s beautiful scenery along the six kilometers stretch of sand. You can also find cafes, bar and restaurants close to the beach so you can enjoy a mid-sunbathing snack or cocktail.

Gran Canaria

Puerto Rico beach offers a crescent of golden sand and calm waters which is backed by a promenade with bars. This relaxing beach is a great place for families to spend the day. Puerto Rico has also been dubbed as the hottest place in Gran Canaria so it’s a great place for sun worshippers to work on their golden glow!

Tenerife

Los Cristianos beach, Tenerife

In Tenerife, Los Cristianos beach front has a trendy cosmopolitan feel to it. The beach itself  has a fantastic view of the harbour which offers daily boat excursions if you feel like taking to the seas. Here the calm sea gently laps the golden shores, making it a great place for younger members of the family to take a dip in the water. 

Las Teresitas beach, Tenerife

Found in the northern part of Tenerife, not far from the resort of Santa Cruz, Las Teresitas beach is one of Tenerife’s hidden gems. Shaded with palm trees and a lush green backdrop, it’s a perfect location for a day at the beach. The waters are very calm here thanks to the breakwaters that have been built to calm the waves.
