Top Tips to Keep Cool on Holiday

One of our favourite things about going on holiday is the warm weather we don’t often get to enjoy in the UK. But sometimes, it can get a little TOO hot, and we need a quick fix to help us keep cool and enjoy the sunshine for longer.

Here are some of our favourite tips to help cool you down during your summer scorcher of a holiday.

Spritz Cooling Sprays

Cooling sprays are one of the greatest inventions to help you cool down when it’s warm! There are many places to get your hands on them, including Amazon and B&M, and there are many different brands to choose from, all ranging from a couple of pounds. The sprays are pressurised canisters, just like deodorant sprays, filled with water and a handful of other ingredients. They can be used as a quick fix to cool down at home or on holiday and can be popped in your suitcase with ease.

If you don’t fancy spending money on cans of water (we get it!) then Amazon and other online retailers have fantastic refillable options. These small handheld fans come with a water container attached to them, and as you turn on your fan, you can press a trigger which releases a burst of water too. These are a little more expensive than your cooling spray options, and do need batteries, but these can be reused as much as you like, meaning you only need one in your suitcase as opposed to taking a couple!

Take A Dip In The Pool

There’s one huge advantage about being on holiday when it’s warm – a big pool of water just waiting for you to jump in! Though they’re not unbearably cold, pools are always kept to a chilled temperature to ensure that guests can cool down throughout the day. There’s nothing better than plunging into the water and feeling your body instantly cool down, especially if you’ve been sunbathing.

If you’re desperately working on your holiday tan, taking regular trips to the water will also help you get a deeper tan colour, and the cool down will help you stay in the sun for longer. But always remember, stay safe in the sunshine and apply SPF regularly, even if you tan well.

Sip Delicious Drinks

One advantage about relaxing around your hotel pool is that the bar is never too far away. And, if you have booked an all inclusive package, drinks are FREE! Keeping hydrated in the sun is an absolute must and ensuring you have plenty of drinks available is very important when sunbathing. If you’re making the most of your all inclusive package by enjoying alcoholic drinks, then make sure to take regular sips of water to keep hydrated throughout the day.

If you’re off to the beach for a spot of sunbathing, or are exploring the area nearby your hotel, then make sure to pack some bottled water for your travels. Most hotel rooms will regularly stock your mini fridge with bottles of water at no extra charge so these are perfect to take with you. When you start running low, pop into a local shop and stock up – there’ll be lots of local delights you can enjoy too!

Take Regular Air Con Breaks

One of the most wonderful things about being in a hot country is that air conditioning comes as standard! Tiled rooms, buildings made to keep the heat out and AIR CON! Whether you take a break back in your room, wander around an indoor shopping centre or go for a bite to eat in a cool restaurant, taking a break from the sun is very important.

The hottest part of the day tends to be between 12 and 2pm, so this is the perfect time to head indoors to stop yourself from overheating. Though we do go on holiday to enjoy the hot weather and lots of sunshine, us Brits just aren’t made for constant beaming rays and toasty temperatures.

Stylish Sun Hat And Glasses

Sun hats and glasses are not only a way to look stylish on holiday but also help to keep the sun off your face and shoulders, keeping you cool while you’re out and about. Often, you don’t think about how much sun your scalp and shoulders get throughout the day. If they’re exposed for long periods of time, they can not only become burned by the sun, but your body temperature will increase. Wearing a sun hat can bring shade to your face and shoulders, ultimately making you feel cooler, and stops you from any sun damage during the day.

Sunglasses are also a great option! Along with stopping you from squinting in the sunshine, they too offer a small level of shade protection on your face. Don’t forget to also apply sunscreen to your face and scalp to ensure you’re fully protected from the sun’s glorious rays if you take off your hat or shades.

Shade Bathing

One of the first things we do when we get on holiday is hunt out the perfect sunbathing spot, whether that be at the beach or by the pool. We find the perfect sun loungers with the right angle to enjoy most of the day’s sun, but how many of us are bothered about a parasol? Next time you’re on the hunt for your sun lounger spot, don’t pass up on the parasol, as these are the perfect solution to keeping cool in the sunshine. It takes a couple of seconds to pop one up, and it’s just as easy to take them down, but they provide the perfect quick fix when you need a little break from the sun’s beaming rays.
