For many, Fuerteventura is the island of peace and quiet and daydreams of just you, the beach and the sea. If you’re travelling with the family you’ll want something more. Here are a few of Fuerteventura’s favourite things to do with the kids.
Corralejo Beach – Sandcastle Building
Sandcastle building champions of the world, have you ever looked enviously at other people’s holiday snaps of the Caribbean and wished you could take the kids there? Well, beach lovers, it’s time to rejoice, because the beach at Corralejo rivals the ones in the Caribbean with its miles of white sands. This will work just perfectly for the kids who just love to build.
Top Tip – take a pop-up sun tent with you, so that your little ones can get some welcome shade as the beach can get very hot.
Oasis Park – A Day for Animal Lovers
It only takes one day for this park to charm you, and it’s hardly surprising as Oasis Park is one of the most educational and at the same time really entertaining days out you can experience. Watch a sea lion show and even get in the water with them. Get up close and personal with the ever so cute lemurs and going on a camel safari are just a couple of the amazing and exciting activities you can take part in. When everyone is hungry you can choose between three restaurants to refuel in.
Top Tip – make sure you all wear comfortable shoes and not flip-flops or sandals, due to the paths being a bit gritty.
Pizzart Caleta De Fuste – The Best Place to Eat With Kids
While family friendly restaurants are not hard to come by in Fuerteventura, Pizzart is one of a few local gems that keeps customers coming back. The restaurant is renowned for its quality freshly cooked pizzas and for those with a sweet tooth, we recommend you try the chocolate and walnut flavour, they even do deliveries. The owners are really friendly and even provide a play area which is such a convenient way for the adults to enjoy their meal in peace.
Top Tip – it’s closed Mondays.
Segway Tours El Cotillo – Great Family Fun
This activity is so cool, your kids will thank you for introducing them to it. They offer five different tours, our favourite has to be the tour to lighthouse of El Cotillo to discover the natural pools. The Segways can go wherever a person would walk but at a faster pace and so much fun, once you have had your two minute training session you’ll be on your way. You really shouldn’t miss this experience.
Top Tip – if you’re unsure about this trip, we recommend you do the Fun and Beaches tour which lasts just fifteen minutes and is a great taster.
Pirates Adventure – Ships Ahoy!
There is something about pirates that inspires awe in most kids. For many of those that see this ship for the first time, they get a niggling feeling that it looks so familiar. The reason for this is that it looks so much like Captain Jack Sparrow’s ship. For the best swashbuckling experience, we recommend this trip so the kids can learn all about a pirate’s life. The family can even spot dolphins whilst eating the delicious lunch which is served as you cruise along the south coast.
Top Tip – take your swimwear as there are opportunities to swim or snorkel.
All kids are different and only you can decide what they will love best. However, we hope that this guide to the top five things for kids to do will help you plan your holiday and enhance your enjoyment of Fuerteventura.
