As we wave goodbye to the sunny season let’s look back at the Instagram trends that shaped our summer 2015. Forget close-ups of your cocktail glass and bikini-clad selfies because they were so last year! This summer we witnessed celebrities, models, and friends alike embracing the warm weather with some interesting holiday snaps. From sitting atop of giant inflatables or drinking out of coconuts – these are the Instagram trends that got us all talking.
Giant Inflatables
If you didn’t witness the giant inflatable trend this summer then where were you? During the holiday season, Instagrammers everywhere were pictured alongside or on top of a variety of pool floats. From Taylor Swift’s swan to model Emily Ratajkowski’s Pegasus and Miley Cyrus’ pink flamingo, these poolside toys were the must-have accessory of the summer.
Coconuts
Health-conscious celebrities and Instagram influencers were obsessed with one drink only this summer, and that was coconut water. So, if your 2015 holiday didn’t involve sitting on a beach and sipping out of a coconut then you missed out! Famous faces including Kendal Jenner, Lily Allen, and the former TOWIE star Lucy Mecklenburgh were among those going coconut crazy this summer as they were snapped embracing the fruity trend.

The Sunglasses Shot
No more close-ups of your cocktail in front of the pool – oh no this year some of Instagrams most influential fashion bloggers started a new trend. They simply grabbed their finest pair of sunnies and positioned them in front of a beautiful view, creating what can only be described as the perfect sunglasses shot. Yes, it’s that easy!
Squads
As much as we all love a holiday selfie, it was all about the squad photo this summer! That’s right – you weren’t anybody if you didn’t have a squad, and the bigger your team, the better! Instagram feeds everywhere filled with the unified trend as we witnessed holiday snaps of bikini-clad groups enjoying the sun as they posed alongside friends. Celebrities like Taylor Swift, who was pictured in a giant pool and Selena Gomez, who we witnessed enjoying Mexico’s nightlife, made the trend extremely popular with their group-inspired pictures.

Ice Cream Season
Nothing says summer quite like an ice cream, right? Well, if you didn’t know this year was all about the ice cream snap. Many of us celebrated the start of the holiday season by holding up a coned ice cream and taking a picture. I know this doesn’t feel like the most ingenious idea, but this didn’t stop us all jumping on the bandwagon and showing our cold treats to the world. From vanilla flavoured to raspberry topped summer 2015 was the time to brag about your ice creams.
