How to Take That Perfect Selfie

Since the term ‘selfie’ hit the dictionary in 2013 we have had a constant stream of close-ups from our friends, family, pets and now the celebs have joined in. Twitter went into meltdown at the Oscars when Ellen DeGeneres took a selfie with Hollywood’s finest including Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, Julia Roberts and Kevin Spacey. The picture was retweeted over 3.3 million times making it the most ever retweeted picture on Twitter as of 10th March 2014.

We thought we would put together a list of do’s and don’ts to get the perfect selfie for your next holiday.

Tip 1
Stay out of the bathroom. Bad lighting coupled with toilets, baths and showers do not make a memorable moment.

Tip 2
Props make the photo more interesting and unique. A clever prop can increase the fun-factor of your selfie ten fold.

Tip 3
Be careful when wearing sunglasses. We all love our Rayban’s and Gucci’s but try not to get the reflection of your phone or camera in the picture.

Tip 4
Always know what is behind you. We’ve all seen selfies when the photographer has forgot to remove embarrassing things in the background. It is also worth making sure the room you are in is tidy, you want to be the most interesting part of the picture.

Tip 5
There is a reason people prefer not to work with animals and children… Whether you’re on a camel ride in Egypt or a safari in Kenya be careful of your surroundings. You never know what’s around the corner.

Tip 6
Try to be expressive, the sillier the better! After all we all love a good stupid face whilst soaking the sun up in Ibiza.

Tip 7
Whilst a long pole may seem like the solution to a bad-angled selfie, the process of taking the snap looks ridiculous.

The selfie craze has continued this side of the pond after Joan Collins tried to do a British version of Ellen DeGeneres’ famous selfie at the Prince’s Trust Award. Joan allegedly encouraged getting Prince Charles involved who politely declined the offer. The picture has not had quite the same success as Ellen’s with a slightly less well known group. The shot included herself, Veron Kay, Pixie Lott, Phillip Schofield and X Factors latest winner Sam Bailey.
