Rum and Reggae – Jamaica’s Best Nightlife Spots

There’s something unique about Jamaica’s night scene, and it all stems from its rich musical history. As the birthplace of reggae and dancehall, this relaxed country offers a diverse blend of nightlife with a combination of lively and laid-back spots to take advantage of. Beachside hangouts, cliff-diving cafés, and late-closing nightclubs – you name it, Jamaica has it!

So, if you’re looking for some after-dark drinks during your time on the island here’s where you should be heading.

Rick’s Café, Negril

If you’re going to Negril it would be rude not to stop by Rick’s Café. Not only does this drinking hole offer breathtaking views with its over-the-sea setting, but it also has a buzzing atmosphere with its skilled cliff-divers. Each night professional jumpers and tourists put on a show as they take the almighty plunge into the waters below. But this isn’t the only attraction – Rick’s Café has also been named one of the best places to capture Jamaica’s famous sunset.

Amnesia, Ocho Rios

If you’re heading to Ocho Rios and you’re looking for a nightclub your options are fairly limited. So, we suggest you head to Amnesia! This old school Jamaican dance hall attracts a whole host of party-loving locals and tourists with its booming reggae beats and guest DJs. Hold out for Saturday if you can though as the clubs is host to a dress-to-impress dance marathon. This is great for anyone who loves to dance as it has been known to last all night.

Floyd’s Pelican Bar, Negril

Built in the Caribbean Sea and only accessible by boat, this rickety shack may not look like much from the outside, but trust us this is a drinking experience that you’ll never forget. The bar may be small but once you step inside you’ll soon realise that you’ve entered one of the coolest places on earth, especially when you see hats, carved names, and t-shirts left as mementoes. But whatever you do make sure you try a Pelican Perfection, this is the bars signature drink and contains a mix of lime juice, rum, and ginger beer.

Ocean’s 11, Ocho Rios

With its own private beach and waterfront setting this casual bar has an extremely laid-back feel. Watch as locals and tourists mingle over bottles of Red Stripe and their love of reggae music. But whatever you do make sure you attend the bars legendary karaoke night, which takes place every Tuesday evening. This is a must if you can sing as the DJ will often call for a rewind if he is impressed by your performance, and you’ll be expected to sing again.

Margaritaville, Montego Bay

Placed on Montego Bay’s ‘Hip Strip’, Margaritaville offers one of the best atmospheres on the island. With wide-screen TVs, a 120-foot waterslide which propels you into the sea, and scenic surroundings – we can’t praise Margaritaville enough! By day this is the place to be if you want watch live sporting events or sample a taste of the island. Whereas at night things tend to liven up as this fun time bar turns into a fully-fledged nightclub complete with its very own DJ. There are also a whole host of themed nights to get involved in such as the Bare As You Dare Pajama Party.

Now, it’s time to book that Jamaican getaway so you can try it for yourself!
