Royal Wedding Boosts Easter Holiday Sales

Westminster Abbey – Scene Of The Royal Wedding

Tour operators are rubbing their hands together as the UK heads for a bumper bank holiday period.

With the Easter holidays falling later than usual this year and the extra bank holiday for the royal wedding in Westminster Abbey, we have no fewer than 4 bank holidays falling within 11 days of each other, with May Day finishing off the cluster on Monday 2nd May. Most importantly, workers need only use 3 days of annual leave to get an 11 day holiday stretch, making it the perfect time to book last minute holidays abroad.

Many countries will be celebrating the royal wedding and most resorts will be screening the celebrations live. Managing director of TravelRepublic.co.uk, Paul Furner commented “Sales are up by an astonishing 59.3% over the same period last year. The run of bank holidays, and the fact that the royal wedding is being screened and celebrated in lots of places outside the UK, has been too much to resist.” He added “Equally, we are also seeing strong demand from those wanting to escape the celebrations completely.”

Heathrow airport is expecting 5.7 million passengers to pass through its doors during April, and averaged over 100,000 a day for the first few days of the main Easter school holidays.

Destinations such as Rome, Venice and Barcelona are proving popular for mini breaks with the Canary Islands, Costa Brava and Costa del Sol coming out on top for short haul holidays. Further afield Egypt is leading the mid haul market and Goa is the top destination for long haul.

So whether you are looking to escape the royal wedding, or would prefer to watch it from the comfort of your poolside lounger, it looks like last minute holiday deals for Easter are going to be a right royal success!
