A group of us jetted out for a fortnight in Florida. It was my first time to the states so I was really looking forward to it. Most people seem to think of Florida first when deciding on a holiday to the USA so I thought it really must be good!
We flew from Newcastle to Orlando Sanford Airport, hired a car and drove the short journey to our hotel near International Drive, a Blackpool-esque style road stretching for miles and lined with shops, restaurants, bars, crazy golf, and other attractions, some quite strange. The weather was very hot indeed and the humidity made it sweltering. We got to our hotel in the early evening totally jetlagged and hungry, dropped out luggage and headed out to International Drive for food. The choice of food places on this road was unbelievable, catering for all food tastes. Personally, I found this area a little tacky with all the flashing lights and signs but you definitely get the message that this is a fun place.
The world-famous theme parks can almost go without being mentioned because everyone knows how good they are! Loads of fun but very busy so I’d advise to get there early on a morning.
The theme parks are so popular that other places sometimes get overlooked. We paid a visit to so many other great attractions including the fascinating Kennedy Space Center and Gatorland, which was also a class day out and the shows they put on there were great fun. In my opinion, apart from the parks, the highlight of our trip was when we took an airboat trip in the Everglades National Park.
