Euro 2016 – Holiday Like a Footballer

Love it or loathe it, you can’t get away from the fact that Euro 2016 is just around the corner, and just like us mere mortals, professional footballers love a break in the sun too. So, after the tournament is over, you can bet your bottom dollar that these top-class football players will be jetting off to warmer climates. And you can holiday like them too, as it’s more affordable than you think.

Portugal

Portugal is well-known for its warm climate, beautiful beaches, championship golf courses and tasty seafood cuisine, so if it’s good enough for the Beckhams and Gerrards then it’s good enough for us.

Portugal’s popular Algarve region has become a hot spot for professional footballers, who like a break in the sun and a round of golf when they’re not kicking a ball around for a living. Many have even built holiday homes in the area.

With a great mix of quaint traditional villages and bustling resorts, there’s something for all ages in the Algarve. And if you fancy something a little upmarket, head to Libertos Club in Albufeira. Known as a celebrity hangout, you may get to rub shoulders with the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo.

Ibiza

We love how diverse Ibiza is, with big party resorts such as San Antonio and Playa d’en Bossa for those party animals and quiet resorts such as San Miguel and Portinatx for those who prefer a more laid-back holiday. Ibiza is an island of beautiful scenery where you may spot celebrity footballers such as Frank Lampard and Danny Welbeck soaking up the sun from luxury yachts moored in Ibiza Town.

Mexico

Peter Crouch and Abby Clancy are fans of Mexico and we think it’s a great choice if you fancy travelling a little further afield. Cancun is the party capital, but if you wander a little further up the coast you’ll find the peaceful resort of Riviera Maya. Mexico is packed with beautiful beaches, Mayan ruins and eco parks, and if that’s not enough, you can head off to one of the shopping malls for some designer shopping.

Barbados

There’s no better place to sip cocktails than Barbados with the sound of cool calypso beats playing in the background.

Barbados is one of the most popular destinations for celebrities, with footballer Wayne Rooney owning a holiday home on the island. Boasting some of the best beaches in the world, Barbados is a must for your bucket list.
