Egypt Tops Travelex Cheap Holidays Barometer

Great weather and exchange rates make Egypt a perfect half-term destination for UK families, Travelex has revealed.

With October half term upon us, many British families are looking for last-minute cheap holidays in the sun. Today, Travelex published its “sunny money holiday barometer” top ten list, which details what the currency exchange firm’s “panel of experts” believe are the best overseas destinations to offer fantastic value and the last of the summer sunshine.

The factors that led to their top ten choices include a “combination of historical and predicted weather reports”, plus currency exchange statistics which show the relative value of sterling in the different countries – giving a final “barometer reading” of the value of these cheap holidays for family groups and the chance of some October sun.

Travelex UK regional divisional director Peter Davies commented: “Trips to Egypt and Turkey are proving especially popular thanks to the strength of the pound against both local currencies, meaning holidaymakers have more money to play with. Despite the pound continuing to struggle against the euro, the Eurozone will continue to be popular with British holidaymakers.”

“Following a dreadful summer here in the UK, we’re expecting many families to take advantage of the post-peak bargains and seek out the sunshine this half-term. The combination of special offers and better rates means families have a wide range of choice when it comes to picking a last minute autumn getaway.”

The top ten choices are:

1. Egypt

2. Turkey

3. Kenya

4. Jamaica

5. Trinidad and Tobago

6. USA

7. Dubai

8. Spain

9. Greece

10. Bulgaria

Although there’s been respite from the wet weather and cold temperatures in the UK, in the form of a recent heat wave, Britain has endured its worst summer for weather in more than 18 years. As a result, record numbers of families are expected to be seeking last-minute cheap holidays to sunshine destinations.
