EasyJet to Open New Base in Lisbon

Cheap flights specialist easyJet recently revealed that is will be opening its 23rd base in the Portuguese capital of Lisbon next spring, making the city an even more attractive prospect for UK travellers seeking cheap holidays in fascinating locations.

The Lisbon airbase will open on 19 April next year, with two A319 aircraft permanently stationed there. It will offer European travellers five new routes – to Amsterdam, Asturias, Bordeaux, Copenhagen and Venice. From the UK, easyJet already operates services to Lisbon from London Luton, Gatwick, Bristol, Liverpool and Edinburgh.

The carrier said that by next summer it will be offering 21 routes from Lisbon, translating to more than 150 flights per week at the peak of the holiday season. It expects to carry some 225,000 passengers from the airport in the first year of the base’s operations.

EasyJet customer and revenue director Catherine Lynn said: “We are delighted to be confirming easyJet’s new base in Lisbon. It illustrates our long-term commitment to the market and it will enable us to grow our operations further. Along with significantly contributing to the local economy, our new base will also boost visitors to Lisbon – with over 2 million passengers travelling to and from Lisbon, and 4 million in and out of Portugal in the first year, all travelling with easyJet.”

Cheap holidays in Lisbon are a great option for couples seeking a romantic getaway, or anyone interested in European history, culture and architecture, thanks to its status as one of the oldest cities in the world. Take in a traditional fado music show while eating some of its delicious seafood, or wander round its many churches, museums and monuments while admiring the spectacular views from its hilltops.

Seats for the new routes from Lisbon are available for sale from the 10th of this month.
