Dom Rep Romance

I took my girlfriend to the Dominican Republic last September. It turned out to be so romantic (phew!) I’d carefully chosen the 5* luxury Iberostar Bavaro after a lot of research, and upon arrival my girlfriend was amazed at how beautiful it was, the photos don’t actually do it any justice. The service we received was impeccable. We were presented with a very welcome chilled drink, and from this moment, I knew that we were going to have the perfect holiday. Our room was so spacious and immaculately clean, something my girlfriend is very particular about. The maid service was excellent and we couldn’t have asked for anything more. Our mini bar was restocked every other day meaning there was a constant supply of chocolate.

Check out the pools!

The pools are huge, and although I somehow managed to always pull the short straw of getting up to bag a couple of sun beds at the crack of dawn, we always got them. The pool is set in really nice green, leafy surroundings. I enjoyed aqua aerobics and water polo in the big pool every day, which helped burn off all the delicious food I’d eaten. There is a well nice swim up pool bar serving refreshing drinks. The tropical gardens are nice for a wander and we enjoyed spotting the wildlife, especially the turtles and peacocks.

The restaurants were fantastic with a different themed evening each night. My girlfriend loved this. I’m sure she was betting with herself how many new things she could make me taste! We did go to the speciality restaurant, and I found that I like Japanese food, something I’ve never fancied trying before.

So turquoise…

The beach stretches for miles, the sand is really white and soft and the sea is warm enough to swim in. We went snorkelling one afternoon, which was one of the best experiences ever. The tropical fish and coral reef is just fascinating and I’d never seen anything like it before. We enjoyed long walks along the beach and then chilling in a beach bar with a cold drink or two. It was so idyllic.

The evening entertainment was pretty high quality and was varied. They do try to accommodate for everyone’s tastes. The nightclub plays a lot of salsa but can be quite fun after a few champagne cocktails, even if you’re just people watching. The Star Rock Cafe had pool tables which was good fun for a few hours.

We had a really good holiday. I’d definitely recommend it for a couples’ getaway. It’s quite a romantic destination. I would also definitely recommend it to anyone after a relaxing all-inclusive hotel in a spectacular location.
