Cape Verde Holiday Deals

Cape Verde’s 10-island archipelago is a beach lover’s dream. The spotless white sands and clear blue water makes this a holiday hotspot you can’t refuse.

Not to mention all the incredible aquatic life including loggerhead turtles and humpback whales. The islands have a Caribbean vibe too, despite being just 500 kilometres away from mainland Africa.

With endless paradise-esque coastlines, towering palm trees, quaint cobbled streets and colourful houses, the tourist boom in Cape Verde is no surprise. It’s also a hub for all things culinary, with a rich history full of Creole, African and Portuguese influences in its food. With so much on offer, holidays to Cape Verde are the whole package.

Boa Vista

Boa Vista definitely lives up to its name, ‘beautiful view’, with 55 kilometres of stunning coastline and picture-perfect seas. Behind the coast is a backdrop of volcanic mountains and colourful iconic Cape Verde houses. Boa Vista holidays are all about the beach, with endless unspoilt sands and exciting watersport activities like wind and kitesurfing.

If you’re eager to stay active, and can tear yourself away from the coast, you can even go on a quad biking tour or test out your horseback riding skills.

Boa Vista boasts diverse underwater marine life and is one of the vital breeding sites for humpback whales. The best time to spot these majestic creatures is between March and April, and there are plenty of whale-watching boats around the island if you want to take a closer look.

Boa Vista also has the third largest population of loggerhead turtles in the world, and between June and September you can see them emerge onto the beach to lay their eggs.

Sal

With over 350 days of sunshine a year, the island of Sal is the perfect spot for soaking up rays, making it ideal for unwinding on the beach. Its got a massive expanse of glistening sand, and its most popular beach, Praia de Santa Maria, is lined with fishing boats and sun-worshippers. But Sal is more than just a beach holiday.

Named for its salt mines carved into its landscape, this island once had a thriving salt industry, with 30,000 tons of salt being exported in its early years. Today, due to its fantastic weather, Sal has become a thriving tourist spot, though it’s still the quietest of the Cape Verde islands.

The small size of Sal means you can travel to all four corners of the island in less than a days time. And there’s plenty to see too, like Viveiro Botanical Gardens in Santa Maria which is home to more than 100 plant species.

Or, you could head for Pedra de Lume in Espargos, an extinct volcano hiding in a crater filled with water. The salt content in this crater is so high that you can float around in the water, just like you can in the Dead Sea.

Hotel-wise it’s all about luxury and 5* ratings, with access to private beaches and stand-out health and beauty spas. In the evenings you can check out one of the many mouth-watering restaurants, with national dishes like cachupa stew and an abundance of tropical fruits including mangoes, papayas and passion fruit.
