The very best hotels in Croatia serve up private beaches, leading spas and dining scenes to match most towns. As well as those for couples’ breaks, others are set up with families at the forefront, while many blend kids’ clubs with infinity pools and sunset views.
Here’s our guide to which 4* or 5* hotel to choose for your next holiday in Croatia.
Le Meridien Lav Hotel, Podstrana, Split
The only private beach in Split, one of the largest spas in Croatia, glorious sunset views from the infinity pool and glamorous restaurants set the scene for this 5* hotel.
Restaurants include sampling Dalmatian or Italian a la carte dishes and fine dining buffet food, or staying at 7 Palms Bar & Grill after seafood for music and drinks. The exclusive Diocletian Spa provides over 70 treatments, including the signature Diocletian four-handed massage. For further relaxation hire a solitary cabana on the edge of the shore. The watersports centre on the beach boasts a wide range of activities and the LM Family Kids Club caters superbly for little ones.

Eden Hotel, Rovinj
Tucked in to woodland near Rovinj, the 4* Eden Hotel is a retreat with its own section of beach but is also close to bars and restaurants along the coast. The restaurant has its own buffet, a la carte dining options and Vitality bar for quiet drinks.
Adults can enjoy treatments at the spa, including couples’ massages, while kids get their own freeform pool and miniclub. You can spend an evening enjoying the entertainment laid on at the poolside stage area or hire bikes to explore the local area.

Family Life Bellevue Resort, Rabac
There aren’t many family hotels that are as sleek and stylish as the 4* Family Life Bellevue Resort. All new for summer 2017, there are sea view pools for relaxing, being active or whizzing down slides with the kids. And there’s just as much choice in beaches – the main one has facilities like a volleyball court, there’s one especially for families and you can even find a third that’s a pure chill-out beach.
As an All Inclusive hotel, the main buffet restaurant has a children’s play corner and their own menu. You can also dine a la carte once per stay, or try the beachfront restaurant. Room options include a family suite or two-bed family room, with all ages are looked after due to facilities such as a baby and kids’ clubs, a baby lounge, teen hangout and spectrum of sports.
Valamar Riviera, Porec
A winner for a romantic couples’ break, the 4* adults-only Valamar Riviera has won the ‘Croatia’s Leading Boutique Hotel’ award for four years in a row. It has an enviable position on Porec’s harbour overlooking the Adriatic and the island of Sveti Nikola – your summer sunbathing spot with free boat transfers. Other perks include a free sightseeing tour of Porec and swimming at the Valamar Diamant hotel’s indoor pool.
Back at Valamar Riviera, you can dine at the buffet restaurant with show-cooking at breakfast or on the terrace of Spinnaker a la carte restaurant and lounge bar. Even standard rooms have views of the old town – a few minutes’ walk away – or you can choose a sea view room.

Radisson Blu Resort and Spa Dubrovnik Sun Gardens, Orasac, Dubrovnik
Set in the peaceful village of Orasac near Dubrovnik, this 5* hotel sings for its dining provision and also has a private beach and excellent spa centre. With a whopping seven speciality restaurants, we’d recommend heading to The Butcher for Argentinian steak, but other options cover pizza, seafood and Med dishes by the sea, a top-notch buffet and bakery. There are three pools, with one just for adults and another for the kids, plus activities like a rock-climbing wall, gym and sports courts.
You can slip off to the vast OCCO Spa for saunas, hammam, a Thalassotherapy pool system and tepidarium while the little ones are kept busy in the kids’ club or teens make use of their own lounge.
