Ah, Ibiza. Land of tranquility. Land of a thousand beaches – or so it seems. The shores on this island are just about as good as it gets, packed with watersports and plush sunbeds. As a result, so much of the island is built around the sands. Hotels, restaurants, bars – you name it, you’re sure to find one with a sea view.

And because the island is on the tinier side, you’re never very far from the coast, which means lazy days on a sunlounger are always calling your name.

We weren’t kidding about those restaurants with a sea view. Ibiza Town – the island’s capital – is privy to hundreds of restaurants with fare from all over the world, plus more tapas bars than you can shake a stick at. Just as many make great use of their surroundings and will have you seated just along the water, so you’ll never have to forgo the beach views.

Ibiza’s historic Dalt Vila needs no introduction. It’s located slap bang in the middle of Ibiza Town on a steep hill, so you can’t really miss it.

A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Dalt Vila dates back to ancient Roman times, and still has traces of its history in the form of draw bridges, cobbled lanes and charming courtyards. It’s also capped with the Castle of Ibiza, steep strolls to which will provide you with some of the best views on the island. Nowadays, it’s paved with top-rated restaurants, market stalls and some of the island’s most sought-out museums, making it the crown champion of Ibiza past and present.

The party pictured above might seem like a one time deal, but crowds like this are actually pretty commonplace in Ibiza. This is the Ushuaia Ibiza Beach Club, one of the island’s best clubs and music venues. It’s just one of the nightlife spots that helps give Ibiza its status as the party capital of Europe.

Ibiza attracts some of the top DJs from across the world, who often set up shop in a single club for the summer and headline massive dance fetes for party-seeking holidaygoers. Here, the cocktails are cool and the nights are long. It isn’t indulgent to stay out until four in the morning – it’s the standard.

Ibiza isn’t all crowds and late nights – it’s also long mornings on the beach with an ice cold drink, floating on the waves underneath the gorgeous Spanish sunshine. There are secluded pockets of sand like this one that’ll have you wondering just what all the party fuss is all about.

The island is known for its ex-pat community, who, in the 1960s, decided to take their Ibicencan holiday up a notch. As a result, there are a handful of hippy markets like this one in Es Cana scattered across the island, selling everything from handmade jewellery to leather goods, artwork to clothing.

They’re also a great spot to chat to the locals and hear live music before picking up something to eat from one of the food stalls dotted around the grounds.

Here’s another shot taken along one of the Dalt Vila’s highly-strollable avenues. Ibiza might seem like the world’s greatest party town, but images like this remind us that it’s a working city laced with hidden gems around every corner. They’re tucked down unassuming side streets, past quiet courtyards and busy restaurants. You just have to look to find them.

Ibiza is also an island of adventure whose shores are brimming with watersporting activities that range from adrenaline-inducing to boozy. You can hop on a boat cruise and explore the rocky coastline or head underwater for an up close and personal swim with the fish. Activities here beg for brag-worthy photos like this one – just make sure to bring a waterproof camera.

Urban though it may be in many places, Ibiza is crisscrossed with coastal hiking trails and some seriously gorgeous vistas. One of the favourites among outdoorsy types is the brisk hike past Es Vedra, the eerie rock formation seen in the distance in this photo. Up north is where you’ll find a gorgeous natural landscape that’s largely untouched, plus the underground Can Marca dripstone caves and the lush backdrop for the film South Pacific.

This picture pretty much speaks for itself. We’ll just leave it right here.
