What's the weather like in Costa Blanca?

Located in the southeast of Spain, with over 200 kilometres of gorgeous coastline to lounge on, Costa Blanca is one of the most visited regions in Europe and for good reason – the sun is almost always shining in this stunning coastal region.

That gives you plenty of perfect weather for lounging on long stretches of the namesake white sand backed by rugged mountains, and balmy nights to soak up the legendary nightlife in.

Our rundown of the weather in the area also covers when it's best to travel if you want to be more active in slightly cooler weather, for example to enjoy the theme parks of Benidorm or the rustic charm of quaint Moraira.

Perfectly placed

Thanks to it's southeast facing location, Costa Blanca enjoys a balmy Mediterranean climate with deliciously hot summers and mild, but sometimes rainy winters.

The sunny microclimate can be enjoyed year-round with up to 325 days of sunshine and a mere 12 inches of rain per year, which has resulted in its breathtaking, arid landscape.

Spring

Following the comparatively mild Spanish winter months to those enjoyed in the UK, spring marks the arrival of longer days and a rise in temperatures.

While evenings may still be a little chilly with lows of around 8°C and highs of 15°C in March, by mid May the afternoons quickly warm up and reach the mid 20s by lunchtime.

April and May will still see the odd rain shower but there are only around seven days that see rain each month during spring. As the charming resorts begin to wake up and the air is full of the scent of fresh greenery, spring is a delightful and peaceful time of year to explore the area.

Summer

Things start heating up with the arrival of June, with average temperatures sitting around the 25°C mark, perfect for days spent on the golden sand without feeling too uncomfortable.

As the summer season gets into full swing, the beautiful stretch of coast heats up to as high as 30°C but nothing a refreshing dip in the iridescent sea won't take care of, which enjoys an average temperature of 25°C throughout August.

You'll have no trouble topping up your vitamin D intake either, with July boasting a glorious 11 hours of sunshine a day. Night temperatures rarely drop below 17°C either so lots of pleasant evenings can be enjoyed, leisurely strolling the streets and indulging in al fresco dinners.

Autumn

As Autumn arrives the only real change in the summer weather is the increase of rainfall from an average of three day in August up to an average of eight days come September.

Temperatures still sit around a comfortable 25°C and with most of the high season crowds having returned home, autumn really is the calm after the storm. October cools down further by a few degrees and by November you'll need to pack a sweatshirt for those 16°C days.

Winter

The winter's of Costa Blanca are variable from year to year but that said, you'll rarely have need for your winter coat. While some years have been dry and sunny with pleasant temperatures of around 20°C, on average December through to February sit more around the 12°C mark.

The climate may be a bit too cool for a splash in the sea but it's a fantastic time of year to enjoy the surrounding backdrop of mountains and hiking trails. With less tourism throughout the winter you're also guaranteed to pick up a bargain holiday deal and have those long stretches of idyllic sand to yourself.

With such a fantastic climate combined with spectacular natural beauty this Spanish gem caters for all budgets from wallet-friendly packages to luxurious breaks in the sun.
