Things to do with kids around Laganas

Over on the island of Zante in Laganas, the family-friendly activities are all about getting outdoors and enjoying Greece's famous Mediterranean climate.

Lazy beach babies take shelter on the popular shore here while animal lovers can spot the island's famous loggerhead turtles underneath the waves. You've also got waterparks, go-kart tracks and boat tours too, all of which will keep little ones happy as you soak up the sunshine.

Suit up in your snorkelling gear

The bay in Laganas is one of the biggest nesting grounds for loggerhead turtles in all of the Mediterranean, making it an excellent place to spot them.

The turtles are well protected by laws and regulations, so if you want to see them up close, you'll want to familiarise yourself with what you can and can't do in order to ensure their safety.

There are a number of snorkelling and scuba schools in Laganas that'll help get you and your family suited up and learning the basics of breathing underwater regardless of your experience level. From there, it's all animal spotting under the waves, made that much easier by the remarkably clear water.

Below the surface, you'll have the chance to spot everything from octopi and colourful fish darting over and in the coral reef, plus the odd loggerhead, of course. The best time to see them heading to shore to lay eggs is in the summer months of June, July and August.

Spend the day at Laganas Beach

Laganas Beach is nice-sized, to say the least, stretching all the way from Agios Sostis in the west to Kalamaki in the east. It's speckled with rows and rows of sunloungers, not to mention bars and restaurants at the back, making it a great base for families.

Because the island strives to protect the loggerhead turtles nesting here, motorised watersports are strictly forbidden, so the beach is especially calm and relaxing. But that doesn't mean fun on the waves is out of the question – you'll still find watersports of the gentler variety, like pedalos and canoes.

Plus, connected to the beach via a wooden footpath is Cameo Island, a hunk of rock that has its own beach bar and bite-sized beach. It's a sweet little spot for beach babies and pirates in training.

Hit the go-kart and mini golf course

Located just on Laganas' main strip is a family-friendly spot that's part go-kart course and part mini golf. The go-karts have sidecar-style seats for little drivers so they can team up with adults on the track.

And when you purchase rounds on the go-kart track, you'll get a free go at the mini golf course, which is big enough to take up a decent chunk of your afternoon. If you're looking for fun off the beach, this is just the ticket.

Take a boat trip to the Keri Caves

The Keri Caves are only accessible by boat, but luckily there are plenty of tour groups along the Laganas coastline that'll get you there. They're located along the southwest coast of the island, and are near to massive rock arches and cave mouths that are big enough for boats to access.

Most times, you'll also have the chance to jump ship and swim in the bright blue water, spotting starfish and other finned creatures darting underneath the surface.

Whip down the slides at Water Village

The nearest waterpark to Laganas is Water Village, which is just less than 20 minutes away by car. There, you'll not only find a collection of slides, a lazy river and splash pools, but a go-kart track and mini golf course too.

For nibbles, there's an ice cream stand, restaurant and bar, so hungry little ones needn't worry.
