Planning the perfect honeymoon to Thailand

Thailand is a popular destination for couples, and especially for honeymooners, due to its warm tropical climate, beautiful scenery and peaceful sandy beaches. There are also lots of interesting things to see and do in Thailand such as amazing Buddhist temples, pristine forests and bustling markets, so you can vary your honeymoon to include laid-back beach days and exciting adventure days.

Relax and dream on fantastic beaches

The coastline of Thailand is well known for its beaches and there are several seaside resorts where you can enjoy an idyllic seaside getaway.

Just off the sandy coastline of Krabi are around 200 small islands to explore with your loved one, all with a backdrop of lush mangrove swamps filled with wildlife. One of these islands, Phi Phi Lay Island, was the stunning film location for The Beach starring Leonardo DiCaprio.

Khao Lak

There are over 20 kilometres of sandy stretches in Khao Lak, so there’s plenty of room to find your own quiet niche. There’s coral reefs that you and your partner can snorkel and scuba dive around and even a stunning tropical forest to explore just inland.

The main beach in Phuket is Patong Beach where there’s a lively mix of families, groups of friends and informal events such as Thai boxing matches and beach parties. You can take boat rides out to the nearby Phi Phi islands and spot the local sea life, swim or scuba dive.

Explore Thailand's beautiful temples

Thailand is predominantly Buddhist so there are several stunning temples to visit and huge Buddha statues to see. One temple you may wish to visit is Wat Chalong in the centre of Phuket, which is a large complex with several ornate and brightly painted buildings. Or if you’re staying in Khao Lak, close by is the Wat Suwan Khuha cave temple, which has a huge reclining golden Buddha and numerous statues and artworks.

At Wat Tham Suea near Krabi you can see ancient tiger paw prints set in stone and can climb steps up to the rooftop to see the large Buddha statue and look out over the incredible landscape below.

Discover the scenic landscape and wildlife

Southwest Thailand has a very varied landscape that includes jungles, mangrove swamps, mountains, rivers and waterfalls, which makes for interesting nature treks and amazing views.

One place you might like to visit is Khao Lak-Lum Ru National Park. You can take tours with expert guides to show you the diversity of creatures and help you spot exotic orchids, colourful birds and mammals, including barking deer and monkeys.
