A blend of North African, Arabic and European charisma rolled into one

Sitting beside the Atlas Mountains and Sahara Desert, Agadir provides incredible views, but there's one truly amazing reason to visit – its beach. Stretching over nine kilometres that sweeps along luminous blue waters, its attraction is obvious.

There are a plethora of reasons to take to the sea with jet-ski, surfing and dive equipment hire all readily available. Thrill-seekers can explore on 4x4 safaris or try their hand at quad biking. For a more tranquil setting, visit the local Souss Massa National Park or discover the treasure trove of Le Musse des Arts Berbere museum.

After being destroyed in the 60s by a tremendous earthquake the majority of Agadir has a contemporary charm. This doesn't stop it from being at one with its history though – there are still many winding roads that have an array of aromatic souks, traditional bazaars and minarets hidden away behind the scenes. Agadir also has around 300 days of glorious sunshine a year and is less than four hours away, so it's no wonder people visit its glistening, white marina throughout the year.

Not too far away you'll find the ancient red, mud city wall of Taroudant which is perfect for a day visit. Sometimes referred to as 'Little Marrakech', this perfectly situated trading centre is so much more than that. In the distance, you'll be able to see the snowy mountaintops of Mount Atlas and with the Anti Atlas and coast moments away, it's also a great place for setting up a base to hike and explore. You can purchase a wide variety of items from the traditional bazaars such as spices, dried fruits, clothes, pottery, rugs and jewellery.

The best time of year to book your last minute holiday

You can pretty much guarantee hot, dry, sunny days most of the year in Agadir. From June through until September the average temperaturea ranges from 25°C to 35°C with coastal breezes filtering off the sea that make a comfortable summer getaway. If you book last minute, from eight weeks prior up until the last moment, you can find some incredible deals.
