Family Holidays to Fuerteventura

If you're a family of beach-lovers, Fuerteventura scores big. But there's more to it than playing on the sand, as families can go on nature walks, visit waterparks, take boat trips and be amused with sports and watersports.

Fuerteventura’s east coast is primed for family holidays

It only takes four and a half hours to fly to Fuerteventura, but the warmth and landscape make it feel much more far-flung.

First up on our list of family-focussed resorts is Corralejo in the north – Fuerteventura's most popular destination – where holidays and activities are centred around the wide swathes of sand. The town itself has lots of restaurants and shops and there's a waterpark nearby.

Heading south, Costa Caleta is a little quieter, but has plenty to keep families busy, like beach play areas and a central shopping and entertainment centre. As it's in the middle of the east coast, you can reach everywhere from here.

Then on Fuerteventura's southern tip is Jandia – a modern town with a good shopping centre and an older neighbour Morro Jable. Between them are no fewer than 32 kilometres of beach, all backed by Parque National de Jandia.

Best family friendly beaches

Corralejo's large expanses of beach are backed by the mountains of the Corralejo Natural Park, and there are lots of little coves to explore. You can reach the biggest and best beaches from the centre of Corralejo on foot, by bike or bus. Watersports are all the range here, from paddle boarding to pedalos and everything in between. Costa Caleta may only have a one-kilometre beach but it's a sheltered bay that great for paddling and just right if you have younger kids. They'll love the beach playground too.

Another big hitter for beaches, Jandia's shores stretch for miles. You can stay in town and eat at the delicious beachside seafood restaurants or venture further for private bucket and spade time. And they run all the way into Parque National de Jandia where you might spot vultures.

Best family activities in Fuerteventura

Corralejo's sand is the starting point for 4x4 adventures and boat trips to see the seals on Los Lobos island. Acua waterpark is also here, which has mini-golf and go karting alongside its many slides. Jandia is more secluded, but it still has some great things to do, such as snorkelling tours to spot parrot fish, rays and other aquatic animal life. Or set sail on a pirate ship with yer hearties, taking advantage of the free shuttle bus from Jandia.

You can reach all of these activities easily from central Costa Caleta, or stay put for its amusement arcades, trampolines, volleyball, pool tables and mini-golf courses. Plus the Atlantico Centre has shops and bowling.
