Family Holidays to Agadir

Families come to Agadir to enjoy its 10 kilometres of sand, modern attractions and great line-up of places to stay and eat out. As well as waterparks and animal parks, you can get a taste for authentic Morocco on trips to the medina and nearby walled cities.

An exotic beach break for the family after just a short haul flight

Flying into Agadir Airport takes just three and a half hours from the UK, and transfers to Agadir's hotels only another 45 minutes, so there's barely any time for kids to be restless.

As soon as you head toward Agadir, you'll catch glimpse of one of the main reasons you came – that 10-kilometre long golden sand beach looming in the distance. A modern town, Agadir was almost completely rebuilt in 1960, making way for a modern marina, shopping areas and promenade.

You can see traces of history in the 16th-century fortress ruins on the hill and, although there's no original medina old town left, visit the reproduction Berber Medina to pick up local crafts from artisan workshops here. And when you're hungry after a spot of sightseeing, Agadir has all flavours of restaurants, including rich Moroccan dishes, plenty of seafood and tastes of Greece and Spain.

Best family friendly beaches

Agadir is, without a doubt, Morocco's number one beach resort, with 10 kilometres of sunlounger, cafe and watersports-heavy shore right in the heart of the city. Many hotels have their own private stretches of sand. With all this space you might only need one beach, but there are plenty more. Head north for the beaches of Tamraght and Taghazout for a laid-back vibe loved by surfers, which can be reached by car in 20 minutes.

South is the coastal reserve of Souss Massa National Park where you can play on the sand and spot birds at the same time. If you have a flamingo fan in the family, head to the Massa Lagoon to see them balancing on one leg. Legzira Beach also has the benefit of some naturally spectacular rock arches, seen at their full potential at low tide.

Best family activities in Agadir

The range of things to do in and around Agadir includes the old and the new. You can shop Moroccan-style at the El Had d'Agadir souk – a large covered market – or travel an hour from Agadir to visit the old walled city of Taroudant, complete with more souks all housed in huge defence walls.

For more current activities, Atlantica Parc waterpark, around a 20-minute drive from Agadir, has lots of kids' slides plus a few for adults. You'll get a bird's eye view of Agadir from La Grande Roue big wheel beside the beach, or you can visit Crocoparc to see crocs big and small getting fed before using the two playgrounds.

Other popular holidays in Morocco

Swapping modern for storied, Marrakech is another Moroccan location ideal for a family holiday of souk shopping, horse-drawn carriage rides and entertainment at Jemaa el-Fna square.
