Egypt family holidays

Egypt is an ideal destination for family holidays where you can relax, have fun and create some unforgettable memories. You can choose to explore some of the spectacular ancient sights, take in exciting activities or simply sit back and enjoy the amazing beaches.

Enjoy relaxed days with the kids and fun evenings out

There are several popular seaside resorts located along the coastline in the Sharm el Sheikh region, as well as in Marsa Alam and Hurghada.

These resorts were specifically designed for holidaymakers and offer plenty to keep children happily entertained. The golden sandy beaches are the main attraction where you and the kids can unwind, sunbathe and enjoy the shallow water that are perfect for paddling in.

You'll also find a good selection of restaurants with local and international food options, so even fussy eaters will find something to suit. In the Sharm el Sheikh region there's plenty for the whole family to see and do throughout the day and well into the evenings. There are lots of bars and clubs alongside a wide range of shopping choices from exotic souks and bazaars to chic designer outlets.

Excursions and activities

If you want to do some snorkelling and diving, the Egypt and Red Sea coastlines are definitely the place to holiday. With a wealth of exotic sea life, Egypt's seaside resorts are just waiting to be explored, particularly in the Hurghada region and the resort of Soma Bay.

You can also take trips out into the desert on camels, or for a leisurely walk along the beach. And for some authentic fun there are Bedouin-style evening dinners in the desert where you can really get into the spirit of Egypt.

For opportunities to discover more about the fascinating history of Egypt, you can get up close to ancient tombs and hieroglyphics in places such as Luxor and Cairo.

Find out more about fascinating Luxor

The history of Egypt and its iconic pyramids are a source of fascination for millions around the world. That said – Luxor is one of the finest jewels in Egypt's cultural crown. It's also a great place for a family day out with older children, and can be reached in just under seven hours by car or ferry from Sharm el Sheikh.

Luxor is home to a third of the greatest antiquities in the world, making it a spectacular place to explore and discover the mysteries and myths of ancient Egyptian culture. Imagine how exciting it is to walk around the Valley of the Kings where the tombs of pharaohs including Tutankhamun are located. You can also visit the huge complex of Karnak Temple, which was once part of Egypt's ancient religious centre of Thebes, and marvel at the amazing ram sphinxes.

If that wasn't exciting enough, there's donkey rides around the sites too, or you can always hop in a hot-air balloon for a more exhilarating journey. Plus, this means you get a bird's-eye-view of Luxor and its surrounding landscape.

Take a trip to the pyramids in lively Cairo

Six hours down the road from Luxor, you'll find Cairo, Egypt's lively capital. This is also where you'll come across the country's most impressive museums. If you're interested in getting a closer look at some of the most sumptuous items and jewels from the tombs of the pharaohs, this is the place to head for.

Cairo is also home to the iconic pyramids and the enormous sphinx. If you're around in the evenings, you can catch an impressive light-show, which sees lasers and projections bounce off the sides of the pyramids, creating what can only be described as a visual extravaganza.
