In just over two hours from the UK, you’ll land in Spain to start your holiday.

Summer is Spain’s busiest time, so to grab a bargain holiday travel in the shoulder months of April and October when the weather still averages around 20°C.

Cheap holidays to Spain revolve around the stunning coastline where you can spend little money and have fun-filled days on the sand. You can do so in quiet resorts like nature-heavy Islantilla in Costa de la Luz, close to the Portuguese border, or in old favourites like activity-laden Benidorm in Costa Blanca.

Another great cheap option is Tossa de Mar in north-eastern Costa Brava, which has both an old town and a castle to explore.

Cheap days out in Spain

Tossa de Mar boasts three beautiful beaches alongside the Catalonia coast’s only fully-preserved medieval town. You can catch a road train up to the 14th-century old town and castle, which is free to walk around and lit up at night.

There are market stalls in town where you can hunt for bargains before grabbing a drink at one of many bars. Or to get some shade, pop into the Municipal Museum and view contemporary art and archaeological finds for just three euros, and kids go free.

On the opposite edge of Spain’s shore and close to the Portuguese border, Islantilla is a green area with one of Europe’s top golf courses. Nearby Donana National Park comprises of bird-rich lagoons, natural beaches and acres of greenery.

As well as 32 kilometres of beach, Islantilla has two malls for window shopping, while you can also travel an hour to cultured Seville for much more to do.

You can also spend happy hours enjoying the abundance of bars waiting to be discovered in Benidorm. Dance in clubs with all sorts of music and vibes, while cheap and tasty Spanish and international food is easily accessible too.

Its two huge sandy bays are filled with watersports and have playgrounds on the sand and in the water, while there’s a pretty old area raised-up in between the beaches with superb views. Bargains are to be found at three markets, and places like the market-style Avenida del Mediterraneo mall.

Refurbished for May 2017, The 4* All Inclusive TUI Family Life Islantilla virtually touches the beach that runs for 32 kilometres along Islantilla’s coast. It has two lagoon-style pools, a kids’ club, children’s cinema, playground and mini disco. The hotel lays on inclusive buffet, grill and a la carte meals at four restaurants and there’s a shopping centre with places to eat 10 minutes’ walk away – or you can take the mini-train there.

In a quieter part of Benidorm, Palm Beach Hotel is a 10-minute walk downhill to Levante Beach, or the courtesy bus will take you. It shares facilities with neighbouring Don Jorge Hotel so you get more for your money, including two outdoor pools and one indoors, a buffet restaurant and pool bar, entertainment around the pool and a mini-gym and sauna.Free kids places are available and there’s an activity centre during summer where families can play together.
