Enjoy an unforgettable experience in Lapland at a budget pleasing price

Fly to Lapland in under four hours from the UK to enjoy snow-sports, sightseeing and more – this wintry wonderland will help create a lifetime of memories.

Be sure to pack a sweater to enjoy the delights of Lapland – situated at the northernmost point of Finland it sits just at the edge of the Arctic Circle and it can get pretty chilly. The warmest month is July when temperatures reach around 17°C with the coldest February coming in at a teeth-chattering -10°C. November to March are best for snow as these months remain below zero.

There are a glittering array of attractions, but top of most visitor's lists are sleigh rides and visiting the man in red himself at Santa Claus Village, which is situated eight kilometres from Rovaniemi. This small capital of Lapland certainly packs a punch, attracting 300,000 visitors each year. Here you can build a snowman at Snowman World, have a drink in an ice bar and enjoy snow-mobiling and skiing.

Saariselka is another resort offering incredible scenery and winter sports. This small village is located within the Urho Kekkonen National Park so opportunities for walking and hiking are plentiful. It's where Santa's Creek is located in a secluded wooded spot, to see reindeers, elves and Father Christmas himself – he certainly gets around!

A lively Lapland village located in Finland's northern fells, Levi has abundant skiing, snowboarding and apres ski options, as well as visits to Father Christmas. Aside from skiing, visitors can enjoy ice-fishing in the many frozen lakes, reindeer safaris or husky rides through the unbelievable snow-dusted scenery.

Cheap days out in Lapland

Those in search of affordable days out in Lapland should consider natural pursuits. In Rovaniemi head just outside the town, look up and see the impressive Northern Lights, the best time to catch them is between June and July. Saariselka is another good place to spot them between December and March after 8pm and the surrounding scenery, with it's fells and lakes, is perfect for long wintry strolls.

In Levi head just outside the village to visit it's lake – frozen all winter long and surrounded by intriguing wilderness it's another great spot to search for those elusive Northern Lights at night. Those wanting to enjoy nature should head to Pyha-Luosto National Park, just under a two-hour drive from the resorts mentioned, to enjoy enchanted walks or hikes through the majestic 200-year old pine forests.
