Cheap Holidays to Halkidiki

For cheap holidays in the Mediterranean sun, you couldn’t do better than Halkidiki. With miles of unspoilt beaches open to all, and low-cost apartments that provide beachside settings and pool access without the price tag, a small spend goes a long way in this incredible destination.

Halkidiki Cheap Holidays

Easy on your wallet and heavy on sunshine

In just over three hours’ flight time, find yourself on this beautiful trio of Greek peninsulas that bask in the Aegean Sea. Natural beauty and suntan weather don’t cost a penny extra.

Halkidiki is home to all manner of beautiful towns and villages, each boasting sandy beaches and ancient architecture galore. Peaceful Hanioti is picture-perfect with its winding cobbled streets, and offers five kilometres of coastline ideal for sunbathing, paddling and watersports. This tranquil village is also within reach of the livelier town of Kalithea, known for its nightlife, crystal clear waters and string of Blue Flag beaches, meaning that if you stay in either destination you can easily experience the joys of both.

Just south of Kalithea is the hillside town of Kriopigi, a labyrinth of narrow streets filled with white-washed tavernas and red-tiled roofs. Tucked neatly between pine forests and mountains to one side and a vast sandy beach with shallow waters on the other, Kriopigi offers plenty to do for the budget-conscious traveller.

Cheap days out in Halkidiki

Enjoying Halkidiki needn’t break the bank, from exploring the olive groves and paddling in the ocean in Kriopigi to unpacking your snorkel to spot sea life off the coast of Kalithea. From Kriopigi’s hillside you can admire spectacular views across the ocean towards Sithonia and stop to cool down at the ‘krio pigi’ in the town centre – a natural spring perfectly placed to refresh tired travellers.

There are scenic walking routes around the nearby hills, as well as plenty of small coves dotted along the coast that make great spots for days of rock-pooling and sandcastle-building. Back in Hanioti you’ll have ample opportunity to window shop when you aren’t on the beach, or you could take a trip to Polichrono to spot turtles in the nearby lake.

If you visit Nea Moudania during your stay, time it right and the view from your sunbathing sessions could include free sightings of international volleyball and sailing competitions, not to mention the famous Mount Olympus.

The weather in Halkidiki is warm and pleasant all year round, meaning that even if you visit in the low season you won’t sacrifice the sun. For cheap deals with the best weather, look for packages in May, June and September. High season means higher prices in July and August, so travel outside these times and you could save enough money to splash out on some fine dining and watersports excursions. However, if you’d prefer a cheap holiday in these peak months, you’ll find some great deals if you look for a last minute getaway.
