Local Dolmus buses offer a cheap way of getting around and will take you to the region's numerous historic sites. Turkish cuisine is Mediterranean-themed, with a selection of mezzes, seafood and stewed meat dishes. The markets provide an opportunity to sample street food without hurting your wallet.

Marmaris is a popular choice with holidaymakers as the area's long sandy beach is lined with an array of sporting activities, bars and restaurants. Or just 20 minutes' drive from Marmaris, the tranquil region of Turunc with its calm, Blue Flag beach, is ideal for cheap days soaking up the sunshine, plus there's a selection of bars and restaurants along the promenade. The beautiful beaches, affordable markets where haggling is expected, and wide range of dining choices mean a holiday in the Dalaman region can cost as little as you want. Lazy days on the beach or snorkelling can be combined with live evening entertainment in the numerous bars and restaurants. The local Dolmus buses are a cheap option to visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site at Fethiye, the hilltop ruins of Tlos and the rock tombs of Pinara.

The surrounding Taurus Mountains provide opportunities to go horse-riding before heading out on a 4x4 safari. Or take a boat trip along the Dalyan River and discover ancient rock tombs carved into the hillside. You can even spend the day browsing for handcrafted goods without hurting your wallet at the local markets in Marmaris and Fethiye.
