Historic sites, local markets and cuisine to suit every budget

With a flight of just over four hours, to take you to sandy beaches and bustling bazaars, it’s easy to see why the Dalaman region is a popular budget-friendly destination.

Local Dolmus buses offer a cheap way of getting around and will take you to the region’s numerous historic sites. Turkish cuisine is Mediterranean-themed, with a selection of mezzes, seafood and stewed meat dishes. The markets provide an opportunity to sample street food without hurting your wallet.

Marmaris is a popular choice with holidaymakers as the area’s long sandy beach is lined with an array of sporting activities, bars and restaurants. Or just 20 minutes’ drive from Marmaris, the tranquil region of Turunc with its calm, Blue Flag beach, is ideal for cheap days soaking up the sunshine, plus there’s a selection of bars and restaurants along the promenade. Or if you’re the sporty type, Calis Beach offers many activities including surfing, snorkelling and scuba diving.

For those on a tight budget Icmeler – a quiet town surrounded by mountains – has Blue Flag sandy beaches and affordable waterfront restaurants with traditional Turkish entertainment. Hisaronu, set in pine-clad hills, is just four kilometres from the popular beach area of Olu Deniz and its Blue Lagoon, affording stunning views of the Turquoise Coast.
