Cheap Holidays to Costa Brava

One of Spain's most iconic coastal regions doesn't need to be a pricey place to holiday, especially when there are lots of deals available to get you out into the sunshine for next to nothing.

Spanish beaches needn't break the bank

Spain has a long legacy as an affordable holiday destination, and the same can easily be said of Costa Brava. At just two and a half hours on average from the UK, you can spend the flight planning where to visit first alongside Spain's most rustic and rugged coastline.

The city of Girona is superb for culture hounds of all kinds, letting you see the sights for free with your photography skills in tow. That said, seaside fun is also affordably available, especially in Tossa de Mar, the medieval beach town where wandering the ramparts and hiking the nearby woods is an inexpensive pleasure.

Similarly, Calella is a laid-back seaside town of long beach days and evenings spent sipping cocktails, with lots of historic nooks and crannies to explore without having to shell out for a tour guide. For a real bargain, head out on your holiday in autumn and winter, when prices drop even further.

Cheap days out in Costa Brava

Never be shy in getting off the beaten track to make your money go its furthest on your Costa Brava holiday. In fact, with some of the world's most beautiful beaches available to you courtesy of the Platja d'Aro area, you could find an almost undiscovered scrap of shore to call your own.

You can get active by taking on the Camino de Ronda walking trail that winds along the shore, or even rent a cheap bicycle to wind your way through the vineyards inland. A day trip to Girona, the medieval city flavoured with echoes of Salvador Dali's eccentric wit, also comes highly recommended. Grab a cheap gelato, ready your camera and let the narrow fairytale streets tell you their story.

It's also worth noting you can catch the train, or a bus, to Barcelona. Staying in Costa Brava is a cheap way to visit the culture capital of Spain while enjoying the fuss-free beach experience.

Other cheap holidays in Spain

Remember, holidays to Spain are always among the most competitive. If you've ever visited lively Benidorm, you'll know it's easy to have a fantastic time partying and sunning yourself on a budget.

The wider Costa Blanca area that Benidorm calls home is also easily reached for next to nothing, filled with parks and inexpensive eateries. For true Mediterranean culture without the expense though, Costa Almeria is almost untouched by tourism, awash with pristine white buildings by the sea. That said, Costa Brava still keeps its edge in affordable deals, as our recommended list of hotels shows.
