Turkish delights just got a whole lot cheaper

It’s a four-hour flight and 45-minute transfer to Bodrum’s coastal resorts, and if you book off-season, like in the comfortable heat of October, you can get cheaper deals when it’s less busy too.

There’s a full kilometre of sandy beach to laze on in buzzing Gumbet which is one of Turkey’s most popular destinations, or you can frolic in the water with a choice of watersports on offer. Beyond the sands you’ll find places to sit and sip a fruity cocktail, and you can carry on in that vein come evening, partaking in the city’s excellent variety of nightlife.

Elegant Bodrum exudes a quiet cool despite the tourists that flock here for the beaches, affordable restaurants and variety in hotels. There’s a classic Aegean character in Bodrum where laws restrict building heights, but the shopping, nightlife and amenities are most definitely from this era.

Step onto Bitez‘s sandy beach crescent for romantic walks surrounded by fragrant olive and citrus groves. Calm and shallow waters make the bay an ideal location for watersports, or meander to the abandoned ruins of the old Greek church with sparkling dolphin mosaic floors.

Cheap days out in Bodrum

Aside from two large sandy bays, a 15th-century castle and bargain-rich market in Bodrum make it a wonderful spot for idle exploring. Or head just out of town to one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World – the remains of the amphitheatre and Mausoleum of Mausolus, who gave his name to subsequent resting places.

In Gumbet you can top up your tan on the kilometre-long beach or wander through the pretty streets among a smattering of restaurants and cafes, and it doesn’t cost a penny. While also within walking distance is Bitez, where you can watch fishermen in the harbour and windsurfers in the water, before stopping for a meal at one of the reasonably-priced restaurants.
