Affordable Alcudia makes the most of Majorca for less of your money

It only takes two and a half hours direct from the UK to fly to Majorca, and this gorgeous island in the sun isn’t just the playground of holidaymakers seeking to make a splash with their cash.

Majorca, and specifically Alcudia, has plenty to offer those of us travelling on a budget. For one thing, gorgeous beaches are part and parcel of this part of the island. Directly adjacent to the town and tracing the coastline beyond, they range from active crowded family affairs to serene escapes beyond the hubbub.

Meanwhile the town of Alcudia itself bristles with affordable food and drink, as well as plenty of Roman history to get stuck into.

Cheap things to do around Alcudia

Alcudia might have that quiet coastal town feel that Majorca’s communities so specialise in, but that’s not to say you’ll be getting bored any time soon. And the activities around here won’t shatter your finances either.

For example, days out at the local Hidropark theme park offer superb value thanks to it being a go-kart track, waterpark and mini-golf course all in one.

The beaches are a great place to lounge for less. Playa de Alcudia is the nearest and most obvious choice, bedecked with loungers and parasols and five minutes’ walk from cafes and bars.

However, you can strut out to the more secluded Playa Coll Baix, nestled in its own cove, for a day of sun, sea and sand as personal as it is cost-free. What’s more, Alcudia boasts Roman ruins that date back 4,000 years, and you can tour these relics at your leisure for a glimpse into the past.

How to get a great Alcudia holiday deal

Like elsewhere in the Mediterranean, Majorca and Alcudia see their biggest crowds during the year’s hottest months, so booking outside of the standard summer months of June to September guarantee better deals.

You can add even more savings by booking last minute, which means up to eight weeks prior to your departure date.

Besides Alcudia, Majorca has lots to offer a budget holidaymaker. Magaluf is the famous party quarter of the island, made all the more appealing by the cheapness of the tipples and the upbeat outlook on life held by the locals.

The pristine beaches certainly help too, although they’re just as lovely in Palma Nova, just up the road. Beloved for its long promenades and even longer beaches, this downtempo town by the sea keeps your costs down and your spirits high.

Majorca also offers cosy little towns like Caimari, where the rustic traditions of old Spain still stay strong, all at a low cost.

With eight pools to choose from, a week’s stay here could have you dip into a new one every day and still have one left over. It’ll be a cheap week of treats too, thanks to a newly renovated restaurant and the affordable beers and cocktails offered at the bar. This sprawling resort sits 15 minutes’ walk from the shore, so you’re also far enough inland to get to the shops and bars if you feel the need, not to mention enjoy the seclusion.

Sol De Alcudia Aparthotel

You’re in your own apartment downtown here, with the shops on your doorstep and the seaside a 10-minute walk away. Luckily, the whole resort complex is tucked away in its own grounds, isolating you from the bustle of the town and keeping the distinctive poolside nice and quiet. In the lounge bar, shows run twice per week, while for food you can get baguettes from the pool bar or main meals at the restaurant.
