A land of contrast

Out and about

Venture out of the built up areas into the wonderful wilderness and you’ll find some of the most picturesque scenery. We’re talking mountains with a mix of desert landscapes and two enormous bodies of water – the Sea of Cortez and Pacific Ocean. The Sierra de la Laguna mountains, which form the backbone of the Baja Peninsula, are a must-see. Get your hiking boots on and head here to discover secret lagoons, come face to face with spiky cacti, and discover stunning spots that you’ll definitely want to add to your Instagram feed.

Be sure to make a beeline for the famous landmark – El Arco. This sea-sculpted rock forms an amazing arch in the sea. Head out on a kayak tour or catch a boat from the marina and you’ll be given the perfect photo opportunity to capture the natural beauty spot in all of its glory. By opting for a glass-bottom boat you can admire the underwater world and keep your eyes peeled for the expected sea lions along the way.

Originally famed for its sport fishing, Los Cabos is the go-to place for those that enjoy casting a line. Catch the likes of tuna and striped marlin in one of the world’s sport fishing capitals. If you’re holidaying here during October, you’ll witness the world’s richest fishing tournament – Bisbee’s Black & Blue.

The biggest show on Earth

Its sun-soaked beaches are of course another main attraction in Los Cabos, however so are it’s glistening waters – and we don’t mean just for a swim or water sports. From mid-December to mid-March each year you can witness the ‘biggest show on Earth’ as thousands of whales migrate from the Arctic to breed in the coves and inlets around the Baja California Sur. Head out on a whale watching excursion for a nature performance you’ll never forget.

After-dark scene

As for a night time there’s plenty to keep you occupied, especially in the vibrant town Cabo San Lucas. With its after-dark scene first pioneered by the famous American rock star, Sammy Hagar, you can expect rock bars like Cabo Wabo all the way to three-storey dance clubs like El Squid Roe. It may have a much more laid-back vibe however San Jose del Cabo has plenty to keep you occupied on an evening too, from chilled-out gardens to live music performances down its cobblestoned streets.
