The breathtaking beauty of Positano

Once you’ve arrived at this destination you’ll soon understand why it’s been pulling in the celebs over the decades. Many places are described as breath-taking, but Positano really is.

It’s not simply the beauty of the local architecture and landscape that’ll have you in awe. It’s also access to beautiful beaches, its quality restaurants and general easy-going vibe that make Positano such an idyllic town to holiday in.

Exploring the locale

Whether you hire a bike, go on a pony trek or simply enjoy a long and invigorating walk, there are plenty of local beauty spots and attractions for you to enjoy. A nine-minute walk away from the centre of Positano lies the Grotta di Fornillo. This extraordinary venue showcases sculptures of a crib and surrounding buildings created by a local artist. If you’re driving from Amalfi to Sorrento it’s worth slowing down to take a peek.

When you’re feeling energetic you can always take a 35-minute walk to Montepertuso, to the east of Positano, located in the hills above the town. From Montepertuso you can walk on to the Oasis of Vallone Porto, with its waterfalls and rare plants.

Beautiful beaches

Holidays in Positano put you within easy reach of a range of beaches. Spiaggia Grande is the town beach and once you sprawl out on the sunloungers here you’ll be able to indulge in some stunning views over the Tyrrhenian sea. The beach is 300 metres long, and at one end is a footpath that’ll take you to the more tranquil Fornillo beach, only a 10-minute walk away.

Other bays along this coast can be easily reached by taking a boat tour from Positano’s Marina Grande. Clavel, Remmese and Cavone can only be accessed from the sea, so if you want a peaceful day out take a boat trip to one of these secluded spots.

As well as boat trips, you’ll also be able to take to the seas in a sea kayak and explore some of the caves and grottos dotted around this coastline. You can snorkel with ease once you reach some of the local deserted beaches thanks to the crystal transparency of the water.

The shops rock

In keeping with Positano’s luxury vibe, you can expect to find some wonderful shops in town. Positano is choc-full with a wonderful array of boutiques where the interesting and the unique dominate. This is definitely the town to visit if you’re looking for something different to take home with you.

Safari is the place to head for if you’re looking for some classic Italian sandals, they’re all handmade and considerably cheaper than if you were to try and acquire a pair of these in the UK.

Keeping with the handmade vibe, Mario Lampo is famous in these parts for the quality of her made-to-measure clothes. If you only buy one bespoke item this year, this is the place for quality and cut.

If you want an alternative destination on a sunny afternoon, then cool down amid the wonderful artwork to be found at the Franco Senesi gallery. This venue exhibits some of the best contemporary artwork from both national and international painters and sculptors.

Complementing your holiday

No holiday would be complete without an exploration of the local eateries. Whether you’re looking for a light snack or something more substantial, Positano has a wealth of restaurants. Covering paninis to pasta you’ll be able to wine and dine according to your taste and budget.

If you’d like to discover more about the local wines, then a tour of a vineyard is in order. Swirl The Glass, based in Positano, offers you an opportunity to exercise your wine tasting faculties in the wineries right along the Neapolitan Riviera. Now’s your chance to find out more about Italian wine and the region where you’re staying.
