Sivota Holidays 2024/2025

Set in a beautiful bay surrounded by olive groves, Sivota is sleepy by day but the sailing set brings the village alive at night. If you’re not taking to the water during your holidays to Lefkas, relax on the small pebbled beach, in a harbour-side cafe or walk up through the trees for incredible views.

Stunning surroundings

In the southeast of Lefkas, the picturesque village of Sivota is nestled in a wooded valley that wraps around the bay, meaning there’s greenery as far as the eye can see. The village is a collection of matching buildings that include many tavernas, catching the eye with their white walls and terracotta roofs.

Sailing is the main activity in this quiet village, and you can hire a boat from the harbour to do your own exploring or simply watch the flotillas come and go. In the evenings the cafes grow busy with sailors coming ashore after a day on the water, contributing to a fun, friendly atmosphere. And many bars and restaurants stay open late.

Sivota’s bay is almost entirely enclosed by an inlet that curves around a bend, making the whole scene reminiscent of a Scandinavian fjord. There are always boats moored in the water and others floating in and out. You can hire your own small boat and take to the seas, where there’s the chance of cruising along beside a school of dolphins diving in and out of the water.

As well as sailing, angling and spearfishing, snorkelling and scuba diving are popular activities around the coast here. Many boats for hire will have these types of equipment included, or you can go out on a specialised trip from the bay to learn how to fish or dive.

    Around the harbour

Holidays in Sivota are focused around the harbour. The long quayside on the west side of the bay is lined with tavernas and cafes to relax in during the day, shaded from the heat. Of course, you may want to soak up the sun’s rays by the sea, in which case head to the small pebble beach at the end of the harbour. Here numerous spots are dedicated to swimming, providing the opportunity to take a dip in the deep blue Ionian Sea.

You can get your lunch for the day at Sivota Bakery Cafe and take it out onto a boat or find a picnic spot in the hills. Alternatively, eat in at the cafe, and indulge in some of the best waffles, crepes and pizza on the island.

There are a couple of mini-markets and gift shops dotted around the village where you can pick up food or souvenirs, but as with most places in Lefkas there aren’t any boutiques to browse. If you’d like to wander around clothes and jewellery stores, the capital Lefkas Town is around a 15-minute bus or car ride to the north.

    Alive at night time

Unhurried by day, Sivota becomes much busier at night, with activity on the seafront increasing as yachts and flotillas moor up for the evening. With the flotillas come groups of people ready to unwind after a day on the water, and they do so at the many cafe-bars along the harbour.

These include Liotrivi, which was once an olive oil press and now uses the machinery as part of its decor. You can sit in the beautiful garden from early in the morning ’til late into the next one. There are also places like Trocolo for lounge music and cocktails, or Pirates Bar, keeping Greece holidays lively with its fun atmosphere and lively karaoke night.

    Explore the sea

There are two off-road trails around the port, which are ideal for walking and mountain biking. As you journey up, look back for spectacular views over the bay and out across the Ionian Sea.

As Sivota is a busy harbour, you can use the water as a means of transportation, or catch a bus to other towns and villages across the small island, which is a budget-friendly option for exploring on cheap package holidays to Greece. The larger resort of Vassiliki is only five minutes’ journey to the west by road, or a quick skim across the water by boat. This is the island’s hub for windsurfing and has a long pebble and sand bay as well as plenty of shops and bars.

The peculiarly shaped island of Meganisi is a distance of four knots across the waves. Its pebbly coves twist in and out along its coast, and the many of the rock formations can be seen as you approach are both beautiful and of geological interest.
