California Holidays

California holidays reveal a vast, diverse area of sunshine, mountains, beaches and some iconic popular culture. The streets and backdrops of California's sprawling cities have achieved great distinction over the last century, primarily through the advent of the international film business, for which the eminent Hollywood industry has played the starring role.

Iconic popular culture

The large white letters of the Hollywood hills seem almost as natural as the trees and shrubs around them and act as a daily reminder to locals and visitors alike that holidays in California can take you to the heart of 'Tinseltown'.

In the valley below the 'Hollywood' sign, the hardworking industry that each year brings thrills and excitement to our local cinema screens continues unabated. No California holidays are complete without a stroll along Hollywood Boulevard. The thousands of stars embedded in the pavement, each honouring an entertainment industry legend, give you a sense of the glamour and bravado that forged this legendary town, and continues to breathe life into it today.

Places to Visit

Napa Valley

Napa Valley looks stunning at any time of the year as the colours in the valley change to suit the season, whenever you visit you must take the time to do a wine tour. Visit Winery's and cellars of families that have produced wine here for centuries, sampling the goods, learning the process and buying souvenirs.

From San Fransisco to Los Angeles

Further north, the Golden Gate Bridge and the steep inclines of San Francisco have inspired images that are now indelibly imprinted on our minds. We've seen the numerous movie car chases where the streets of this charming city feature almost as bit-part extras such is their strength of character. In the southwest your California holidays could take you to San Diego, a laidback cosmopolitan city that oozes cool. Situated right on the magnificent Pacific coastline, San Diego enjoys fantastic weather and its proximity to the border with Mexico means that you're never far from a hint of Mexican spice as well.

San Francisco's coastline features the infamous Alcatraz Island, where the former federal penitentiary once held some of America's most notorious criminals including Al Capone. Tours of "The Rock" are now available daily to give members of the public a chance to see the history of the island. Los Angeles is a city that lives for excess and is one of the most popular destinations for California holidays. In the swanky neighbourhoods such as Beverly Hills, the stars of the big screen live alongside music industry greats. Guided tours of the stars homes, though not always accurate, are an exciting way to spend an afternoon. Movie studios such as Universal also allow people to be shown around. For a back to nature experience on your California holiday visit Yosemite National Park, a spectacularly scenic landscape of mountains and valleys. Yosemite features waterfalls and meadows and forests of the giant sequoia trees. San Diego offers fantastic opportunities for enjoying the excellent Californian weather and engaging in some of the numerous water sports available.
