Cala'n Forcat Holidays 2024/2025

This family-oriented resort in western Menorca has a waterpark, lots of childrens’ amusements and bars welcoming all ages, keeping the kids happy in play areas. You get the benefit of three places in one as it’s joined to Cala’n Blanes and Los Delfines and connected by a mini-train. The rocky and photogenic cove has a patch of sand with shallow water that stretches for a long distance. The main draw here is snorkelling in the clear sea but if you want sandcastle time on your Menorca holiday, the bigger beach at nearby Cala’n Blanes delivers bucketfuls.

This beach is rocking

The beach here is small but offers something a little different from your usual holiday hotspot as its set in a long, rocky inlet ripe for snorkelling. The water stays shallow a long way out into the cove so is ideal for paddling and playing with young children. Further down there are platforms along the rocks for sunbathing and diving in to the sea.

Accessed by steps, the cove has a quaint walkway with hand-carved wooden railings, from which you can look down into the clear waters. There is a dive centre here whose instructors will teach anyone from beginners and take you on a trip to see the underwater caves, flora and fauna of western Menorca.

Three coves

Just along the coast is another small cove – Cala’n Brut – which doesn’t have any sand but is a chilled out place to lie on the rocks. Or hop on the mini train to the southern beach of Cala’n Blanes for lots of sand, beach cafes and access without steps. All along the coast you can take part in water sports including sailing, water-skiing and even water polo.

If you’re planning a family holiday to Menorca, head to the sandy beaches for shallow paddling waters and prime sandcastle-building terrain.

Around town

The set-up here is firmly geared towards families with kids, who’ll love bouncing on the trampolines, climbing across the playgrounds and competing in the mini-golf. The local water park, Aqua Center, has fun things to do in and out of the water. The water castle and inflatable play area is great for little ones and big kids can whizz down the long slides and try out the karting.

The mini train runs every half an hour through the three resorts to take you to attractions, bars and beaches or you could walk to Cala’n Blanes beach in around 20 minutes.

Well-stocked shops

The majority of shops, bars and restaurants in Cala’n Forcat are on the street leading from the ‘John Travolta statue’ roundabout. Bearing a striking resemblance to Mr Travolta, the figure is actually of Los Delfines’ builder, Laurentino Garcia Sanz.

Shops here sell a range of souvenirs, clothing and food, the biggest collection of which are in the Centro Comercial arcade. As an added bonus, if you walk to the top of the mall past Bar David’s, the views across the town are brilliant.

Vibrant nights - but not too loud

Start at the John Travolta statue and you can have a good bar crawl, taking in British pubs, karaoke bars and tapas joints. A typical Brit pub is Churchill’s, which has karaoke and quiz nights, big screen TVs and a children’s games room with pool tables, and is a popular choice for visitors planning cheap holidays in Menorca.

There are tonnes of late night bars and discos in the Los Delfines area but no big clubs per se – for that you should head to Ciutadella, a short bus ride away.

Food and a side of kids' entertainment

Meal times are made easy by the big selection of restaurants in Cala’n Forcat serving barbecued food and Menorcan seafood meals as well as British flavours. Most restaurants are on Avinguda Los Delfines but some are tucked away that are worth finding and usually serve more authentic island food for good prices.

Kids will be kept happy by the pizza and pasta on offer and usually get their own menu. But it’s the abundance of play rooms and outdoor playgrounds that restaurants offer in this area which make families feel so welcomed.

Visit the old town

It’s only a 10-minute drive or bus ride to Menorca’s former capital Ciutadella, which is oozing with history. Known as Vella I Bella – the Old and the Beautiful – its cobbled streets are full of old mansions, churches and museums. The cathedral is thought to be the largest Gothic building in Menorca and the picturesque marina is worth a visit for a coffee pit-stop while watching the boats.
