Torrox Holidays

A Town With Definite Moorish Tendencies…

Historical, traditional and charming are just three little words that can be used to describe holidays to Torrox. Nestling on the Costa del Sol’s sunny coastline, 30 miles east of Malaga, Torrox Costa stretches lazily up the hill to Torrox Pueblo, 2 miles inland; an old fashioned traditional town with definite Moorish tendencies. Narrow streets make their way to the main square; a main meeting place for the locals and equally inviting for those enjoying holidays in Torrox. The castle that used to dominate this part of town is no longer standing; however, the views that it will have enjoyed over hundreds of years are still as beautiful today as they’ve always been. The surrounding countryside is covered in lush olive groves and succulent vineyards, perfect for keen walkers and mountain bikers to explore.

Discover Hidden Coves And A Roman Necropolis…

The seafront promenade cradles the wide, golden shore and offers a range of bars and restaurants to tantalise the taste buds with evenings on Torrox holidays frequently spent here. The main beach has a Blue Flag award and stretches for 8km with many secluded coves and bays to explore further along the coast. To the eastern end of town, just alongside the lighthouse is the ‘Balcon de Torrox’, a new viewing platform with transparent flooring that shows off the Roman remains below. It also makes the perfect vantage point for surveying the sparkling Mediterranean Sea and neighbouring headlands. The towns fascinating history offers Phoenician and Roman remains with perhaps the best examples to see on holidays in Torrox being a necropolis, a Roman villa, restored thermal baths, ceramic ovens and troughs used for salting fish. For a change of scenery on Torrox holidays just pop along the coast to Nerja or head into Malaga with its fantastic historic attractions which include the world famous Picasso Museum.
