Sosua Holidays

An Interesting, If Somewhat Recent History…

For a true taste of the real Caribbean on your Dominican Republic holidays, then look no further than Sosua on the north coast of this breathtaking island. Holidays to Sosua embrace not only the stunning sands, swaying palms and iconic blue waters synonymous with this part of the world, but also the local community and laid back Caribbean culture that oozes from every turn. Sosua is not a purpose built resort like many of its Caribbean counterparts, rather a village that has extended its welcome to tourists looking for the ultimate Caribbean experience.

Sosua holidays can also boast a very interesting history, all be it one that doesn’t date back too far, as the village was actually founded by German Jewish refugees as recently as during the Second World War. They settled here and set up a dairy community, which is still flourishing today. Holidays to Sosua first became popular during the 1970’s when travellers to the region first discovered just how special this area was. The resort has grown but by no means beyond recognition and it has worked hard to keep its authenticity. Whilst all inclusive holidays to Sosua offer the ultimate in luxury, some prefer to stay in the smaller guest houses for a more traditional experience.

Another Perfect Day In Paradise…

Sosua is split cleverly into two areas, El Batey, the touristier end and Los Charamicos, where you’ll find the locals. The two are connected by a pedestrian promenade that runs around the bay, edging the golden sands and clear blue waters of this breathtaking inlet. The warm, shallow waters here also make this area perfect for family holidays to Sosua. There are many smaller beaches and coves to explore on either side of the main beach and plenty of water sports to try or simply relax and watch the sun set on another perfect day in paradise. As day fades the nightlife hots up and Sosua’s main street comes to life with its interesting mix of cocktail bars and pavement cafes. Restaurants serve sizzling steaks, seafood specialities and international cuisine, all washed down with an ice cold beer or potent rum cocktail. If you’re up for it then so are the locals and beach parties often go on until the sun rises again the next morning.

Holidays in Sosua are perfectly situated to enjoy a round of golf at the famous Playa Grande golf course, with exceptional flat conditioned greens and some of the most breathtaking sights you are ever likely to see on a golf course. Explore the local area on a jeep safari, take the cable car ride up Mount Isabel or visit the fascinating interactive marine park at Ocean World where you can feed the tigers and swim with the dolphins. If you’re looking for cheap holiday deals to Sosua then one of the village guest houses will be perfect for you, with their traditional charms and warm local hospitality. For those looking for a little more luxury, then all inclusive deals to Sosua will have everything you are looking for and them some.
