Ronda Holidays

Overflowing With History And Simply Stunning Views…

Whilst holidays to Andalucía epitomise Spanish rural life, it has to be said that Ronda, in the very heart of the region, simply steals the show. It is utterly overflowing with history with Arabian palaces, Moorish architecture, a Roman Amphitheatre, a medieval quarter and it can also boast the oldest bullring in Spain, and that’s all before we even get started on the breathtaking scenery. The town is somewhat precariously placed at the top of a plunging river gorge which literally splits it in two with the Puente Nuevo Bridge, or ‘new bridge’ linking the two halves together. Perhaps not surprisingly, this ‘new bridge’ is now over 200 years old and this spectacular feature just adds to the breathtaking beauty of the town and ensures that holidays to Ronda simply take your breathe away.

Both halves of the town have just as much to offer with traditional eateries and quaint whitewashed houses which are synonymous with the Andalucían region all encased in fragrant floral displays at every turn. Ernest Hemmingway and Orson Welles both spent many a summer enjoying the beautiful old town or ‘La Ciudad’ of Ronda and indeed took much inspiration from their surroundings; it’s very easy to see why.

Perfect For Exploring The Andalucían Region…

The best way to explore whilst on Ronda holidays is on foot and the plunging gorge is probably the best place to start. Whilst hundreds of steps help you descend the 150m crevice, it’s well worth remembering that it is not so easy coming back up again! However the town does have plenty of rest spots with a selection of cafes and bars to take the weight off your feet and the rest of the world off your mind as you soak up the awe-inspiring views. Ronda is just a short drive from the equally picturesque village of El Gastor, known as the ‘balcon de las Pueblos Blancos’, or balcony of the white villages. A little further afield you’ll find Cadiz, Jerez and Seville, all with exceptional restaurants and of course the beautiful architecture and history that you will, of course, be used to by now.

Self catering holidays to Ronda offer the perfect opportunity to fully appreciate the Andalucían region of Spain to its fullest. You will find yourself staying in traditional villas, many with a private pool, well maintained gardens and modern amenities, plus you are highly likely to be surrounded by succulent olive groves, and amazing views.
