The main attraction of Porto Santo holidays has to be the 9km stretch of beach, and on an island that only measures 11km by 6, that’s no mean feat. It runs from the capital at Vila Baleira all the way down to Ponta da Calheta in the south. This isn’t the only beach on the island though; it is dotted with secluded coves and sandy bays so you could easily find one and keep it all to yourself.

Wander inland and you'll be greeted with a mixture of craggy volcanic rock formations, lush green forests and fragrant meadows. Nature lovers can bird watch and butterfly chase to their hearts content and as for water babies, well snorkelling is definitely the order of the day on Porto Santo holidays, you might even spot a few curious dolphins swimming by!

The island is in close proximity to Portugal, a favoured destination for golf holidays and Porto Santo doesn't disappoint on this front either. There are two fantastic golf courses on the island, an 18 hole and a 9 hole, both endorsed by Severiano Ballesteros no less!

Holidays in Porto Santo have relaxation written all over them so you won't find any rowdy clubs or bars on this island. Evenings are usually spent enjoying the hotels entertainment or preferably in a local restaurant experiencing the wonderful cuisine, wines and hospitality of the Porto Santo people.

If you are looking for a peaceful Mediterranean holiday without the hustle and bustle of larger resorts, then Porto Santo holidays are exactly what you are looking for. Did you know? Portuguese footballer Cristiano Ronaldo has been a frequent visitor here over the years, so it might well be worth checking out who’s sitting at the next table during dinner.
