Situated between the capital Palma and the popular beach resort of Arenal, Playa de Palma is a fun, but not too loud, place for couples and families to spend their holidays. One of the biggest resorts in Majorca, the huge beach has loads of facilities and sports to play – enough to keep everyone entertained on an All Inclusive Majorca vacation. Very close to the airport, the transfer to Playa de Palma is just 15 minutes – ideal if you’re travelling with children.

Breath-taking beach vibes
What strikes you first about Playa de Palma is the amazing vista across the huge bay, which is straight in the centre and gently curls along each end, with mountains just seen in the distance. The main beach is five kilometres long, running along the eastern side of the Bay of Palma, so there’s loads of room to stretch out on a towel or sun lounger.
The beach gently slopes into the water, so it’s ideal for kids to splash around in or a cooling dip. Atop the waves there are watersports in abundance, and on the sand you can take part in a game of volleyball or a friendly kick-around.
The separate beach of Cala Estancia is much smaller at 200 metres long, but this is where you’ll find lots of trendy beach bars such as Puro Beach Club. As the airport runway backs on to the beach, it’s good for plane spotters and revellers, but not if you want a peaceful snooze.
Trips along the prom
The wide pedestrian promenade that runs the length of the beach and beyond is full of bars, restaurants, souvenir shops and All Inclusive Majorca hotels. You’ll find a good selection of Spanish and Italian restaurants and steakhouses here.
It’s a great place to stroll or cycle and also links Playa de Palma with the neighbouring resorts of Arenal to the south and Can Pastilla to the north. If you don’t want to walk, you can take the mini-train that links the three resorts, at a cost of around ¬3.
At around 16 kilometres in length, you can hire a bike in Playa de Palma and whizz along the flat path beyond Can Pastilla, through the chic resort of El Molinar and quaint fishing village of Portixol. The path then passes beside Palma’s magnificent gothic cathedral, La Seu, stopping only at the northern end of Palma docks.
Night time laughs
A mix of beach bars, British pubs and disco-pubs, there are no big clubs in Playa de Palma itself, but plenty can be found nearby for big dance floors and all-night boogying. Many of the bars in Playa de Palma host entertainment aimed at families, such as live music and quizzes, so don’t be shy to take the kids out.
There is a mix of English and German holiday-goers in the area, especially in nearby Arenal, where you’ll find the large RIU Palace club. It has three dancefloors and four bars so you’ll get a big international party crowd here. They play chart, dance and techno, with a bit of funk and soul music from 9.30pm until 6am.
If you’ve got the bug for clubbing, head to El Divino nightclub on the southern edge of Palma at the upmarket Paseo Maritime. It’s the place to dress your best and shake your stuff. And there are plenty more places to party in downtown Palma itself as well as around the bay in Magaluf – renowned for its epic nights out.
Things to do nearby
There are frequent buses that will take you the short ride to nearby attractions such as Aqualand waterpark, Palma Aquarium or Palma itself. If you’re interested in late deals to Majorca, and have not hired a care, local public transport is easy to use. You can stop and change to the sightseeing bus to get a really good view of the historic city of Palma, its gothic cathedral and hilltop castle. Or down on the ground, walk around the Avenida Jaime III and Paseo del Borne to browse the wide array of shops.
Aqualand Arenal is big enough to spend a day at, as it’s Spain’s largest water park. As you can imagine, there are tonnes of fast, lazy and family-orientated slides and water play areas. Palma Aquarium is actually right next door to Playa de Palma – within walking distance in fact. Swing by for huge tanks of sea creatures with up-close encounters like the shark vision boat.
