Nauplion Holidays - Travel Guide

A rich history…

At the Northern end of popular sailing area, the Argolic Gulf, lies Nauplion is a picturesque coastal town with a long, interesting history. In 1828 after Greece was taken back from Turkey, Nauplion was actually the country’s capital, but it’s in the Italian architecture which dates back even further that the town derives its real charm. With beautifully exquisite streets filled with neoclassical townhouses, you’ll be forgiven for wanting to live in Nauplion rather than simply holiday there.

Plenty of landmarks to visit…

The rich history doesn’t stop at the town houses and cobbled streets, though. Nestled atop a rocky outcrop overlooking the town and the bay, the Palidi fortress proudly awaits visitors with a keen interest in history. But that’s not all. If you take a look out into the bay, you might notice another impressive fort on a small island – a remnant of the Venetian occupation during the 17th century. Numerous other historical landmarks ensure Nauplion will be an interesting and educational experience for any holidaymaker.

Relaxation is also an option…

Of course, it’s not all about visiting fortresses and historical sites. Holidaymakers will inevitably want to relax, perhaps on a beach. Nauplion naturally delivers in this department too. Granted, this is not a beach holiday resort, but the town itself does offer two lovely pebble beaches, and those willing to venture a little way out of town will be rewarded with the usual Greek holiday beach fare. Nauplion also offers plenty of Greek and Italian restaurants, cafés and bars, ensuring you will never be short of things to see, eat, drink and do on your holiday.
