Bursting with beaches

Mykonos Town’s most immediate beach is one right in the centre of the city. This small beach makes for beautiful sunset strolls and spotting the boats that come and go along their harbour. But if you’re looking to stretch out on a sun lounger and spend your days soaking up the rays, there are tonnes of nearby coastlines available. These beaches can all be reached by car or water taxi – a small boat for transporting passengers.

Towards the south of Mykonos Town is the stunning golden sand beach Plati Yialos. Also nearby are the quiet and laid back sands of Aghia Anna and Paranga Beach. For water sports, sun loungers, restaurants and 24-hour bars head to Super Paradise Beach. This long stretch of sand draws in visitors from all over Mykonos who want to tan during the day and then party all night long.

Time to get down

Nightlife in Mykonos Town is diverse and you’ll find all sorts of places to grab a drink, including quiet cocktail bars, drag shows and bouncing dance clubs. It’s an exciting scene when the sun goes down, with these nightlife venues spread out everywhere – around the harbour, winding streets and right on the beach.

Mykonos Town is a welcoming place and the clubs are all LGBT friendly. For a wild night out head to Paradise Club on the coast and join in with 5,000 other clubbers, all dancing in their open air stage to international DJs such as Tiesto and AfroJack.

Fashion, souvenirs and more

The best place to pick up designer fashion in Mykonos Town is on Matoyianni Street. Here you’ll find all the designer boutiques, shoe shops and jewellery stores you could wish for. For some traditional Greek gifts to take home from your Mykonos holiday, walk along the city’s narrow stone streets and pop into the white Grecian shops with multi-coloured shutters. These little stores sell local products, handmade crafts and unique works of art.

Take your pick of cuisines

With over 150 places to eat in Mykonos Town you’ll have lots of choice when it comes to sitting down for a meal. Along the city’s winding streets and marina you’ll find cafes, bakeries, restaurants and Greek Tavernas. Greek food here is in high demand, and local tavernas will draw you in with their fresh authentic dishes like moussaka, chicken souvlaki and catch of the day seafood. If you want something a little different there are also plenty of international spots, like Italian, French and American restaurants.

Iconic structures

Mykonos’ trademark is its 16th century historic windmills, and Mykonos Town is home to four that overlook the city and keep watch over its inhabitants. These windmills were built by the Venetians and used to grind wheat, but they ceased production in the middle of the 20th century and today are used as a landmark and museum. These iconic towering structures face northward and are a must visit for anyone new to the island.

History at your fingertips

For a cultural experience to add on free to your Mykonos holiday package, walk to the old part of the city and climb the stairs of the Byzantine church that overlooks the water. This 15th century building looks as if it’s been forged by the winds and it’s no surprise that out of the 400 churches on the island this is the most photographed. This piece of incredible architecture is composed of four chapels on the ground floor and one on the top. The church once guarded the entrance to a castle that has long since been destroyed. Today you can tour the inside and walk up the steps to take in the spectacular views over the Aegean Sea.
