Information & Directions For The Airport

Manchester Airport was opened in 1938 and was initially called Ringway Airport, becoming RAF Ringway during the Second World War. In the 1960s a new terminal was built, becoming the catalyst for continued growth throughout the next two decades. Manchester Airport was designated an International Gateway able to handle long haul international flights during the 1980s. With its own road and rail links plus a further international terminal Manchester Airport has made itself even more accessible to a larger catchments area. Recently a new runway has been approved and once this is completed Manchester expect to become the UK's 2nd busiest airport in the next 15 years.
Manchester Airport is located 8 miles south of the city centre with easy road access via the M56, M60, M6 and the M62. The Airport has its own rail terminal serviced by Transpennine and Northern Rail. There is a coach terminal based at the Airport with connections to towns and cities throughout the UK.
