Las Americas Holidays - Travel Guide

Playa de las Americas or just Las Americas, as it is commonly known, is a resort on the southwest coast of the island of Tenerife in the Spanish Canaries.

Playa de las Americas is a bustling Tenerife resort that lets you dance the night away and take full advantage of the lively nightlife in the bars and clubs of the main street. There are several good beaches in Las Americas where you can try your hand at a few water sports or simply stretch out on the sand to enjoy the year round sunshine. Las Americas holidays can offer scuba diving, for both experienced and first time divers and excursions including dolphin and whale watching cruises and deep sea fishing trips.

A popular Las Americas holiday excursion is a trip to the summit of Tenerife's imposing centrepiece, the 3,717m volcano Mount Teide that offers spectacular views from within an incredible lunar-like landscape, which is now national park area. A cable car takes visitors to within 200m of the top. Las Americas holidays give you great duty free shopping opportunities, particularly with regard to clothing and electrical goods and competition is fierce so vendors may try to give you the hard sell, but it is quite common to haggle your way to a bargain. accommodation in Las Americas generally consists of a mixture of Hotels and apartment complexes.

Las Americas holidays are renowned for their loud and lively nightlife, particularly on the Veronicas Strip, where a line of bars and nightclubs compete for the attentions of late night revellers. There is a selection of more laid-back bars but those looking for a quieter evening would be better off heading to neighbouring Los Cristianos.

During the day there are plenty of activities to keep your Las Americas holidays interesting. There are the ever-popular water sports such as windsurfing and jet skiing and also a nearby golf course, tennis courts, a karting track and water park among other things. For those feeling particularly daring there's also the opportunity to go bungee jumping.

The cuisine on offer on holiday in Las Americas is a mixed bag of local and international food, but there is usually something to suit everybody, from Chinese and Indian food, traditional English dishes and local fare such as tapas and paella. Many bars advertise full English breakfasts during the day and show British satellite television.

Buses and taxis are easy to find and quite reasonably priced. It will take about 20 to 25 minutes to walk to Los Cristianos but it is only a few minutes by car. The Las Americas resort is quite hilly so walking is not always desirable but most amenities such as shops and supermarkets can be found close to Hotels and apartments. Buses take day-trippers to the cable car at Mount Teide and boating excursions can be found at most beaches to get an alternative view of the island.

The transfer from the Airport is usually fairly painless as it is only about 25km to the east of Las Americas and the main motorway runs close to the centre of the resort. Typically it should take approximately 20 to 30 minutes by car or a little longer by coach transfer.
