The Hottest Gigs in Ibiza this Summer

The island that never sleeps has a reputation to uphold, and it looks like summer 2014 will be no exception! Whether you’re a denizen of the dancefloor or go ga-ga for gigs, there’s no excuse to find yourself at a loose end on an Ibiza holiday. Take your pick from this summer’s selection of eclectic highlights from those fine white Balearic shores

Carl Cox at Space – Music is Revolution, 24 June

As if the presence of legendary house master Carl Cox was not enough, he’s reeled in some big fish this year for his weekly residence at Space, including French techno basher Laurent Garnier and American house demigods Todd Terry and Danny Tenaglia. Chart topping rabble rousers Rudimental join them for a DJ set.

Cream at Amnesia, 12 June

Ibiza is known for legendary opening parties that kickstart the season with a bang and Cream does not disappoint this year, with the likes of Dutch trance master Paul Van Dyk on the decks, alongside possibly the coolest thing to come out of Dumfries, superstar remixologist, Calvin Harris.

Tribal Sessions at Sankeys, 2 July

Darius Syrossian has been bringing the dank, deep Mancunian vibe of Sankeys to the white island for a few years now and this year’s line-up is another masterclass in discerning electronica, featuring techno head Dave Clarke, alongside appearances by Bushwacka, Todd Terry and Hector Couto throughout the season.

Clockwork Orange 20th Birthday, 25 July

From humble beginnings in a Holborn warehouse, Clockwork Orange soon spread its wings to Ibiza, where it swiftly became one of the first superclub names, its antics dominating the dance floors for several summers in the mid-nineties. This year the orange ticks on once again for a 20th birthday bash featuring old skool luminaries Jeremy Healy, Brandon Block, Tall Paul and Seb Fontaine.

Ibiza Rocks with Lily Allen, 25 June

She may have been away for a few years but her recent Sheezus album and *that* satirical video consummately proves that Ms Allen, who’ll be making her Ibiza debut next month,  has certainly not lost the capacity to get people talking, nor the party jumping.

Ibiza Rocks with Jake Bugg, 16 July

Nottingham’s teenage troubadour has come a long way in record time, thanks to the patronage of Svengali Rick Rubin. His gritty street ballads, a keen ear for melody and a knack for picking from rock’s back pages like a musical magpie combine to produce a unique talent. Catch him here before he flaps off into the Slumville sunset.

Ibiza Rocks with Madness, 13 August

In terms of heritage artists in Ibiza, last year’s appearance from Nile Rogers’ Chic will undoubtedly be a tough act to follow, but if anyone can do so it’s got to be Camden’s finest ska-pop journeymen. The last time they played here in 2012 ‘the nutty boys’ were voted as the island’s ‘best live act’, so don your best baggy trousers for a proper naughty knees up.

Snoop Dog, 15 August

The Hard Rock Café brand opens its new hotel in style this summer, with a series of big-name gigs including Ellie Goulding, UB40 and Robin Thicke, but they don’t come much bigger than Mr Money Supermarket himself, who will be taking over Ushuaia for one night of dope beats and droll rhymes.

So as if you needed another excuse to join in with the island party, now you have eight more reasons to check out gigs in Ibiza this year! Don’t forget to take a look at some other European musical lineups for this summer as well. If you’ve already made your plans, tell us who you’re seeing and where you’ll be at in the comments below…
