The Plaza Azul Apartments have bagged a great spot. They’re in the centre of Puerto del Carmen, just a five-minute walk from the town’s main strip of shops, bars and restaurants. And they’re perched on the top of a hill, so the widescreen views are superb.

The apartments themselves are set in a cluster of whitewashed, two-storey buildings. Bedrooms are simple and fresh, with all-white walls and deep-blue bed linen. Lounge areas are kitted out with comfy sofas and satellite TVs. And all rooms open out onto a balcony or terrace overlooking a central swimming pool.

Speaking of the pool, it’s a really good size for swimming. It’s framed by a terrace dotted with bright blue loungers and parasols, and there are steps leading up to another terrace on the roof. The views from here stretch for miles, so it’s a really popular place to watch the sun go down.

In terms of eating and drinking, meanwhile, there’s a bar serving light bites by the pool, plus a mini-supermarket for stocking up on snacks.

Lastly, this place is really close to the beach – Playa Grande is a ten-minute walk down the hill. A long ribbon of golden sand, it’s one of the best stretches on the island.
