This luxury resort on Tenerife’s south coast is a place of stunning contrasts. The volcanic black sand bunkers nestle amongst perfectly groomed, lush green grass, with small ravines creating water hazards. The resort itself is like stepping into a sub-tropical oasis in an otherwise arid landscape, as palm trees and cacti line the fairways and boulevards of Golf del Sur.

Each hole has a character of its own, and with amazing coastal views to the south and the towering Mount Teide to the north, you’ll get a playing experience like no other.

    More than just golf

You don’t have to play golf to stay at this resort. Due to the proximity of nearby towns and amenities, Golf del Sur is a great getaway for families and couples wanting plenty to do. Picturesque beaches, fun-filled water parks, animal parks and adventurous day trips are all available nearby.

The San Miguel Marina complex – the largest leisure marina in Tenerife – is a short stroll along the coast and an enjoyable place to feel the sea breeze and watch the boats come and go. It is also the starting point for the Submarine Safari, which dives 60 metres under the sea to gaze upon sea creatures, divers and shipwrecks. If you’re not already tempted, you should know about the dive certificate everyone gets at the end of the trip.

    Take a trip

The small town of San Blas is a 20-minute walk away and provides a busier atmosphere, centred around three squares of shops, restaurants and bars. The local village of Los Abrigos is also close by, with a pretty harbour and some fantastic seafood restaurants, including Los Roques, which offers sophisticated food in a romantic setting overlooking the harbour. The restaurant is renowned for its unique dishes with influences from around the world.

Not far from your own hotel you can enjoy some ‘me time’ at the reputable Winter Gardens Spa Resort, which offers pampering services and facilities to visitors.

Tenerife’s waterparks are the envy of the Canary Islands and both are situated within 10 miles of Golf del Sur. Thai-themed Siam Park provides thrills for adrenaline junkies, while Aqualand is the choice for families and has a kidzworld and a dolphinarium, as well as some more adventurous flumes. A cheaper and dryer alternative for a day out is Monkey Park, where you can get up close and personal with a variety of primates. Or you could take a spin around the go karting track at Cho, off the main road to Los Cristianos.

    A choice of nightlife

Whether you’d be most at home at a relaxed sports bar, an upbeat cabaret bar or you want to spend your days drinking at the pool bar in between rounds – you can do it all with cheap break to Tenerife at Golf del Sur. Then, to round your evening off, head to Taboo nightclub, you’ll find young and old alike dancing the night away.

If you’re in the mood for a real party, a 20-minute taxi ride will see you on the Veronicas Strip in Las Americas, where you can sample the renowned house and dance music and partying scene of this area.

    Pretty pebbles to sandy stretches

Much of the coastline of this area is rocky and Golf Del Sur has a small, but pretty, pebble beach. If you don’t want to walk on it, you can admire from the boardwalk that runs along the coast.

To the east, you can make the most of the beach at San Blas and a slightly larger one at Los Abrigos. Or travel a few miles further towards El Medano to enjoy the wide-stretching beach of this unspoilt town. Heading west there are some more extremely well serviced sandy beaches at Playa de las Americas and Los Cristianos.
