Gerani Holidays

Do As Little Or As Much As You Like

If your summer holidays are all about relaxation, then Gerani on the west coast of Crete is exactly what you are looking for. Life here revolves around the beach and what a beautiful one it is at that. Spotlessly clean and boasting EU blue flag status, you can enjoy beach volleyball and a good selection of watersports if you can drag yourself away from your sun lounger for long enough.

It’s a tale of two villages here with Kato Gerani on the coast and Pano Gerani just to the south and heading up into the mountain, which explains why hiking is extremely popular in this region. Gerani is the perfect destination for discovering the natural beauty of Crete and it’s easy to wander to the neighbouring villages of Modi and Lourtaki for a change of scenery.

Many holidaymakers book holidays to Gerani in the late spring and early autumn when they can hire a bike or enjoy a leisurely horse ride through succulent olive groves and fragrant citrus trees, without the heat of the searing summer sun.

While life is laid back and easy on Gerani holidays, you can heat things up a little on the action front with a trip into nearby Platanias where you’ll find a more elaborate selection of shops, bars and restaurants. For history enthusiasts, the prehistoric Gerani Caves are a must see and if you can tear yourself away from the beach for a day or two, then take in the famous sights at Knossos and Phaistos where you’ll discover some real ancient Greek history.
