Es Castell Holidays

Where The Past Blends With The Present To Perfection…

During its British occupation, Es Castell was known as Georgetown, having been named after King George III, the village was indeed used as an army barracks. Today this feature just adds to the fascinating history and stunning architecture of this beautiful Menorcan resort. Holidays to Es Castell capture the past and blend it with the present to perfection. The straight roads, Georgian buildings and traditional British clock tower conjure up images of days gone by and today’s quaint town square was once the army’s parade ground. Mix this with the fantastic fish restaurants, modern bars and cafes of today and you’re brought right back to the present day with a very pleasant bump. Add to this the fact that Es Castell is the most easterly village in the kingdom of Spain and it’s no wonder that Es Castell holidays think that they are something special.

You have the choice of two beautiful small coves; Calas Fons and Calas Corb on holidays in Es Castell, one either side of the town, while the soft sandy beach of Cala Mesquida is just a ten minute stroll away. Calas Fons also has a wonderful traditional harbour and lazy days on Es Castell holidays can be spent relaxing in one of the quintessential cafes and bars built into the harbour wall. Es Castell holidays are also lucky enough to be graced by one of the largest natural harbours in the world, just to the north at Mahon.

Take A Water Taxi To Mahon…

Holidays to Es Castell would be complete without a trip to the islands’ capital; Mahon and the best way to reach it is by water taxi from Calas Fons. Here you can wander the selection of charming local shops and visit the traditional market or browse the wonderful historic buildings, churches and museums. The prehistoric village of Trepuco, excavated in 1931 has the largest taula, or T shaped stone monument to be found in Menorca plus several defence towers and stone buildings, all reminders of this part of the worlds fascinating military history. Back to all things natural on Es Castell holidays and the Es Grau National Park offers the perfect excuse to get up close and personal with the local wildlife, a firm favourite with local bird watchers too.

Hotels on holidays in Es Castell are full of old world charm; quaint and traditional and many offer stunning harbour views. If you’re looking for anew experience on your Balearic Island holidays this year, then Es Castell could be exactly what you are looking for. The fascinating history, traditional outlook on life and modern marinas create the perfect relaxing holiday environment for the whole family.
