Antalya Holidays

The Turkish Riviera…

Located on the south west coast of Turkey, edging the dazzling Mediterranean Sea, you’ll find the beautiful Antalya Region; known as the Turkish Riviera due to its stunning beauty, pleasant climate and 300 days of sunshine a year. Holidays to Antalya show exactly what this region has to offer to the fullest, and being just 10km from Antalya airport means transfer times are kept to a minimum. The stunning pine clad Taurus Mountains provide a lush, green backdrop to this coastal resort and also a natural shelter from the cooling north winds, one of the reasons why Antalya holidays are popular all year round. The city of Antalya’s history is a little sketchy, however excavations in 2008 appear to show evidence that it dates as far back as the 3rd century BC. The city has survived Roman, Byzantine, Turk and Ottoman rule and examples of each stage of their history are still very much in evidence today. There are a number of archaeological sites to visit whilst on your holidays in Antalya including Roman viaducts, theatres and Ottoman bridges with a number of restoration programmes ongoing at the present time, or why not visit the Antalya Museum and see the concise history of this fascinating city.

The city centre is located within the old Roman walls and the area is known as Kaleici (inner castle). Traditional houses line the cobbled streets here with quaint shuttered windows and flower clad balconies. The walls roll down towards the old Roman Harbour which has been beautifully renovated into a modern marina. Bars and cafes line the waterside creating the perfect environment for a spot of people watching and for appreciating the stunning views. The Antalya region is renowned for its beautiful coastline; rugged inlets are interspersed with vast stretches of golden sandy beaches, and one of the very best can be found just to the west of the city at Konyaalti. Many family holidays to Antalya are spent here as they have a Blue Flag award for cleanliness and facilities. Why not try the vast array of water sports available at Lara Beach just 6km away or relax on the more central Mermerli Beach. All inclusive holidays to Antalya could see you staying in one of the luxurious 5 star hotels in the more modern part of the city with breathtaking Mediterranean or mountain views.

Combine A Morning On The beach With An Afternoon Skiing…

During the winter months the Taurus Mountain range is covered in snow and it is possible to ski in nearby Saklikent making winter holidays to Antalya perfect for combining a morning on the beach with an afternoon skiing. During winter months Saklikent Canyon is out of bounds as the water from the melting snow cascades through the valley, making it inaccessible. During the summer months however, it makes the perfect day out for the whole family as you can wander through miles of shallow water, discovering amazing rock formations that the waters of many years have carved into the earth’s surface.

Cirali, also known as the ‘burning mountain’ having been dedicated to the God of fire many years ago, is a quaint little village just off the road to Kas, near Olympus, with its long, unspoilt beach and sweet smelling orange groves it creates the perfect change of scenery on all holidays to Antalya. There are two water parks close by which the whole family can enjoy, or why not take a rafting or sailing trip during your Antalya holidays, visit the spectacular Lower Duden Falls or explore the small islands in the Gulf of Antalya with many safe and secluded beaches to stop off at. Cheap package holidays in Antalya can be found throughout the winter months when the temperature is still mild, the sun still shining and the resort is a little quieter than the hot summer months.
