Two beaches on one cosy coast

Alykes Potamos’ beach is divided in half by a row of juniper trees. On one side of these is the southern half of the beach, which is simple and relaxing. Sand and sea, without any frills or extras – this is the perfect place to kick back and read, or bathe in the Ionian Sea with native Corfiot people and very few tourists.

On the other side of the junipers is the northern half of the beach, which is much more lively. There are plenty of loungers for your whole party, parasols to guard against the hot sun, and opportunities to get involved in water sports. These include wind-surfing, pedalo hire and diving. Or you can hire a boat and visit other beaches around the island to find your favourite.

Get your trunks on at Aqualand

Aqualand is one of the largest water parks on the island. Located in Aghios Ioannis, you’re just 10 minutes from the wettest day out of your life. Monumental slides, rapids and a lazy river make Aqualand a truly exciting day out.

It’s fun for the entire family too, with an area dedicated to children. Complete with shallow paddling pool, you can rest assured that the kids are safe and happy. If you get peckish, there’s even a little cafe that does a great lunch.

If you’re more of an easy-goer, you can lie back on one of the sun loungers and read a book or two, while everyone else throws themselves into the watery abyss of the Hydrotube or races on the Kamikazes.

Visit the island's kaleidoscope capital

For a more bustling lifestyle, visit the island’s capital. Corfu Town is a very versatile city, with a variety of markets, restaurants, bars and shops. There’s also a scenic marina which is overlooked by the city’s Old Fortress. Built in the early 15th century, the Corfu Town fort successfully protected the city against all three Ottoman sieges. Understandably, it doesn’t make a bad lookout point either.

The winding streets of the older district of Corfu Town are busy with people browsing the countless market stalls. Olive oil, raki and honey are just some of the local products you can get your hands on here. If you prefer the high life, the commercial centre in Corfu Town has a selection of designer and high street shops and jewellers to browse longingly.

After a long day in the city, take a walk down to the marina and a traditional Greek dinner awaits you at the seafront. If you’re in the mood for something a little different, the capital has restaurants serving anything from Italian to Chinese cuisine. With a shuttle bus that’ll take you back to Alykes Patomos in just 10 minutes you can spend a full day there and be back in no time.

Join in with the island's favourite music festival – Agiotfest

If you find yourself in Corfu towards the end of August, you’ll be able to catch Agiotfest, the island’s annual rock and soul festival. Located in Aghios Ioannis, this festival plays the best local and international music that the island has to offer. Tourists and locals alike crowd to watch live music at Agiotfest, for little over €20 a ticket.

A night out like no other in Gouvia

Gouvia is just a 10-minute drive away and makes up for Alykes Potamos’ calm nightlife, with its own lively club culture. If you’re a party animal and want to get out on the town, Gouvia is a probably the best option. The waterside clubs and techno music welcome all visitors to sip cocktails all night long then simply hop in a taxi back.

You’ll find a club and bar for any taste. Live music from bands play all night, and most of these are open until the very last customer calls it a night. Great DJs from all over the island, and further afield, fill the clubs with the best in techno, dance and dubstep. Also, look out for the themed parties, and beachside raves.
